Meet Tim Balajadia

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tim Balajadia. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tim, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

Great question! Growing up in a military household, life was never certain. My family moved a lot. At the time I hated it because we (older brother and younger sister) would make friends and connections and then would have to leave shortly after. However, looking back now, I cherish those memories. It shaped my character and through the loss, I gained valuable insight and perspective. Life is short. I remember how hard my mother and father worked to give us a life different than one growing up on Guam. At a young age, we grew up in Japan, California, and Guam, seeing how hard different people from different cultures made a living. I think this played a huge role in my work ethic.

I remember in the early days of writing music, learning music production, and learning multiple instruments, I would literally tell myself I can’t eat until that thing I was doing was done. I wanted it more than breathing and that meant a step closer everyday. Now I have 3 more younger siblings and want to be a positive example of when hard work meets talent any when hard work meets opportunity.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an original Reggae Artist from Guam, USA. My musical journey started in Guam in 2004. Since then, I have shared the stage with Collie Buddz, Mike Pinto, Soja, Rebelution and many more Reggae Icons relevant in today’s reggae music scene.

I enjoy being a positive light for those back home and around the world that wish to make a living doing music and owning your own music. There are many steps to achieve this but with extensive learning and commitment it becomes possible. My mission today is to share my music with as many people as possible and encourage performers to share their original music and not stay complacent doing cover songs to make a buck.

I’ve recently released my 3rd full length album entitled “Nice Up Di Place” with producer Robin Letcher and input from 7x Grammy Award winning producer James Bonzai Caruso. This project catapulted my self belief and desire to inspire.

Life is wonderful, I’m just grateful to live it.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Self belief, self awareness, and work ethic. I think these have been extremely important in my journey. My advice is to learn yourself, master yourself, then share it with the world. In any medium you choose, these three things will take you further than you can ever imagine!

With self belief, and slight delusion you overcome hurdles that will attempt to deter you in your journey.

Self awareness gifts you with the areas of improvement that need to be addressed in your field. Additionally, it can reveal any pivots needed to allow for better quality of your craft.

Lastly, work ethic! This will allow you to gain on your competition, or learn at an expeditious rate. It’s the thing that separates the weak from the strong!

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

The biggest area of growth in the past 12 months.. I’d have to say it’s networking and marketing. Having to brand and rebrand myself is a constant journey. Placing oneself accurately in an already competitive field is critical for getting work. Since the laser focus on my brand and little tweaks in marketing, I’ve received more work than ever and continue to grow 10 fold. It’s exciting! Also, I’d have to add communication skills and people skills. People hire the easy to work with, not the divas!
