Meet Tim Esper

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tim Esper. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Tim, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?

Resilience is definitely something that is built, not a trait that you just automatically possess. And whether fortunate or unfortunate, it is typically built by failure. However, if you’re the type of person that learns from failure, and grows from it, you can build up resilience. Challenges and struggles you face won’t bother you as much. It’s like a callus that builds over time when you work out. Sometimes it hurts at first, but the more you do it, the stronger it gets, and the stronger you become. If you are able to have the confidence in yourself, and the faith that you can overcome any obstacle, there is nothing that can stop you.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My story is ultimately one of helping people. I want to use the skills and gifts that God has given me to positively impact my community, and every person I come across. I am blessed to be a people person. I am outgoing, passionate, caring, and have natural born leadership. I did not start off in the fitness industry. My first careers were in Public Safety. Then after some life changes and some soul searching, so to speak, I became a personal trainer. There I was able to combine my love of health and fitness, and helping people to the best use. After some time in the corporate world of Gyms, I was fortunate enough to open my own facility with my beautiful Wife, Michelle. Now we are almost 5 years into our business, continuing to learn, continuing to grow, and I feel like there is still so much room for impact that is yet to come. I have a huge passion for what I am blessed to get to do every single day, and I love being able to share my gifts with the amazing people that come across my path.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1. Being able to build relationships will take you far. No matter what field you are in. The better you are at building and keeping relationships, the better you’ll be in the long run.
2. Having confidence. In both yourself, and also in your knowledge of your craft. If you have put the time and effort into what you do, don’t let doubt, or fear, keep you from taking a chance or seizing an opportunity when presented.
3. Don’t be afraid to fail! Fail hard, fail often, but fail forward! The important key to that, is to learn from it, and grow from it, and not repeat the same mistakes. Failure is sometime the best teacher. I have learned so much in my life from doing things wrong.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

Teach me the importance of faith, family, and hard work.
– Faith in God, and faith in yourself. Those two things will make you nearly unstoppable.
– Knowing that no success outside of my home can make up for failure within it. Be good at what you do. Be successful. But be good to the ones that matter most to you.
– No matter what skills or tools you possess, you still need to work hard. In everything you do, give it your very best. If you give the same effort to the little things that you put into the big things, it becomes a habit. Once that habit is instilled within you, anything less than your best wont be tolerated. That type of attitude and effort will take you far in life no matter what you do.
