We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tim Fancher. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tim below.
Hi Tim, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
As a left-handed child who was shorter than my peers, I faced unique challenges that forced me to develop early self-confidence. While most people took everyday tasks for granted, I had to adapt to everything from seating arrangements at the dinner table to learning to play drums and bowl. Growing up with very little interaction with my father and with a mother working multiple jobs, I often found myself alone. Despite these obstacles, I’ve always had an adventurous spirit, seeking out new experiences.
Determined to overcome these challenges, I focused on becoming the best version of myself. I refused to let others’ opinions define me, and this mindset has served me well throughout my life, from college to my career. By embracing my individuality and working hard, I’ve been able to achieve my goals and build a strong sense of self-confidence.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
As a student, my knack for humor often landed me in trouble. Laughter was my natural language, a tool to navigate uncomfortable situations. Despite graduating with a degree in pharmacy, comedy remained my passion.
Through training at renowned institutions like Four Day Weekend and The Second City, and under the guidance of Emmy Award winner Dean Lewis, I’ve honed my comedic skills. Today, I’m a Fort Worth-based stand-up comedian specializing in clean comedy that’s suitable for all ages and corporate events.
As the creator of the Silver Comedy Tour, I’m also passionate about bringing laughter to senior living facilities. My goal is to make comedy accessible to everyone, regardless of their mobility. Seeing their smiles and hearing their laughter fills my heart with joy. If you can’t come to us, we’ll bring the Funny to You!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
No matter your career, burnout is a common risk. Hobbies can be a therapeutic escape and even a path to a fulfilling career. Start investing in your hobbies now!
For aspiring comedians, daily writing is essential. Jokes don’t materialize out of thin air. Develop a consistent writing routine, whether it’s brainstorming premises, punchlines, or tags. Regular writing keeps your creative juices flowing.
Remember, comedy is an art form that requires constant learning and practice. Seek advice from experienced comedians, practice your craft and be open to feedback. Focus on making your audience laugh, and the financial rewards will follow.
Who is your ideal client or what sort of characteristics would make someone an ideal client for you?
The ideal client for me is anyone that wants to make their team, their customers or their friends and family laugh and smile. They say, “laughter is the best medicine”. I believe antibiotics are the best medicine, but laughter is definitely a close second. I can’t cure an infection, but I can definitely make them forget about their crappy day and go home with a smile.
When’s the last time you made them laugh and smile?
