We recently connected with Tim Finnegan and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Tim, so happy to have you with us today and there is so much we want to ask you about. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others developed certain skills or qualities that we are struggling with can be helpful. Along those lines, we’d love to hear from you about how you developed your ability to take risk?
I would say that I developed my ability to take risk by moving out to Los Angeles to pursue my dream career in the entertainment industry. At first, I was very hesitant about moving to LA and thought I might never move out there or even visit that city, but after awhile, I knew that if I kept postponing my trip or move out there that it would never happen so I took the risk of moving out there and taking a chance and I was glad I made my dream come true by moving to LA.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am an LA-based actor, singer-songwriter, and stand up comedian, and I perform at various open mics and gigs when I’m able to get gigs. I’ve also traveled to perform my stand up comedy in other parts of the country which has been an amazing experience.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I would say that three qualities and skills that were most impactful on my journey include persistence, confidence, and courage. And the advice I would give people who are early in their journey would be to start following your dreams and taking on opportunities early in life when they come up rather than wait till a much later time. I wished I had started my dream career earlier in life and that I had taken on opportunities that came my way, but now I’m glad I’ve learned to take on opportunities and be ready to go when they come my way.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
I would say that one of my biggest areas of growth/improvement is being ready to take on opportunities when they come up. For example, this past May, I got selected to perform in a comedy showcase in Atlantic City, New Jersey. At first, I was a little hesitant about flying out to New Jersey to do the comedy show and I almost turned down the opportunity when I got selected for the show on short notice, but I was glad that I went and did the show. And it was also great to be back visiting New Jersey which is the state I was born in.
