Meet Tim Lockwood

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tim Lockwood a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I first found my purpose way back when Nicki Minaj first came on scene. She was changing her hairstyles so much and this was something new to me. I remember the first time I saw her with a lace front wig I told my grandma “THAT’S HER REAL HAIR” it was 613 blonde frontal and from there I literally became obsessed with hair. I started growing my hair and playing with colors to eventually want to start a brand in the wig and hair business.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am an inspiring wig maker and luxury hair seller. I started testing vendors back in 2018 to make sure I was delivering nothing but the best for my brand. What I find exciting is having my customers look and feel pretty which is why I call the “TimDolls”. I’m planning to attend a few more pop up shops before partnering up and hosting my own as well introducing more products to our shop such as mink eyelashes to complete the overall transformation, hot tools and heat protectant sprays. My long term goal is to have my very own wig stores in multiple locations like Atlanta, Texas and my hometown Mississippi.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I tend to quote my favorite show Rupaul’s Drag Race as those three things are having charisma, uniqueness and nerve. Being able to find yourself and stand out shows your unique style and personality. I would say to someone starting out to make sure you you’re confident and show that you got the nerve and what it takes to be successful. These things have helped me not only in my business but also professionally.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
I have a few people I can mention, my friend KG she does hair on Ig @kghairdesign. She basically has given me so much support and advice basically letting me know not to give up and to keep going and to put my brand out there to the world. I value her response because for one she is very successful and has made a name for herself in our city. I also have influence from other social media platforms like @ashleigheliteextensions @lilbit_collections and @hairbyderrante oh my god. I’m not they level it yet but boy oh boy I will be there soon. They have made some post’s really recent also saying to keep going so I’m going to do just that!
