Meet Tim St Clair

We were lucky to catch up with Tim St Clair recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tim, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

Stepping into a room composed of what you are not is accepting a challenge… Effectively presenting your originality is taking on sceptics while allowing others to determine a value and need- this sets your stage for success.
Your success is knowing your true value and holding on to its worth. Realize, while you bring change others will look to it as the gift it is, yet some will feel challenged by change or the unknown and some already set a predetermined response.
Success is an entity all on its own – staying focused on what you find successful and avoiding what the world claims as success makes the difference. Hold on to what you know is true, do not confuse expectations and results as failure in your process to move forward.
Find your greatness in every room and be strong enough to share it with the world.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Hello, my name is Tim St.Clair and I have been creating music for more than 7 years now. If you were to ask me if I took music in school, knew how to play an instrument prior, had great people around me elevating me to pursue a career in music, family members in any sort of field in music, friend that played musical instruments that could help me out, possibly anything that could give me an advantage or even start me out with knowledge or help…. The answer is a resounding NO to all the above.
The enjoyment I have had with music has elevated me throughout my entire life. I have felt a passion to create, while never giving myself the chance to chase the dream. Have you ever felt like something was out of reach …..that was me.
You may ask yourself what changed and why now am I able to do what I do……. I accepted the challenge and one day determined regardless of what anyone around me thought, did, or expected – I would focus and move forward in making music.
When determining you are going to be the one different in the room- yes, that was defiantly going to be me.
The last 7 years have been very hard at work- learning, experiencing new things, and placing myself in very uncomfortable situations. Yet, I have prevailed in creating Awesome songs that have won awards, hit the top of music charts, and they have been heard across the world. Some of the people I have met provided me with great kindness and honesty (both convey more than you know when it comes to the music industry.) The support my wife and children have given while watching me go through all the struggles have meant the most. They have allowed me to become the person I was designed to be.
Many people ask me if I’m making a living doing music.
If you follow music, you may have heard major label artist speaking about revenue losses or maybe a reduction of compensation. What you might not hear is a voice like mine, I am an independent artis that must create music at the starving artist level. There is a big difference between indie and contract artists – to make music as an indie artist I rely on people who appreciate the songs I create and will support me @ TimStClairmusic.com by purchasing songs, albums, and merchandise or fill the online tip jar. Another way to support me is finding my songs on your favorite streaming platforms and adding them to your playlist. It is important for everyone to help indie artist especially if you enjoy what they are doing. I extend a very large Thank You in advance for your generosity.
Please follow on my page @ TimStClairmusic.com to keep up to date on my new song releases and to find all the music you may have missed. If you are just now finding out about my music, I hope you take the time and listen to each song and let me know when you find your New favorite song. Feel free to follow me on social media and to email me though my site and give me your feedback. I have 2 more releases I will be putting out this year so keep on a lookout for them.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

In reflection, limiting yourself to 3 things you need to achieve –
1. Give thanks in Yeshua and listen to the Holy Spirit guiding you -this is the most important.
2. Trust and belief in yourself with the ability to holding true to knowing your value.
3. Allowing yourself to follow your dream – do not make it about chasing money, you will overcome the negative hurdles to achieve your greatness.
While these things may sound easy- they are not. Your passion must be true to you with a real desire to succeed. I believe our Creator puts us on a path and anything that we do that leads us away from our true course will not provide our soul the comfort we all search for in life. Each of us hold our own direction and ideal for what it means to be us. Pray for your true direction.
Greatness is in the eye of the beholder!

Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?

An overloaded emotion can be devastating if you allow it. Situations, struggles, and untimely events can be overwhelming for instance: while putting together my first album – lightning strikes my home catching it on fire and placing my family in a very hard spot. To keep it short many other things came up during this same time while we were placed out of our home for the next year. Things are not in our control, so understand each day has its own struggle. Trust in God and place your faith and worry unto The Lord, this is what the Bible says we are to do. Learning to trust and having faith is so important to overcoming daily stress- medications wear off and life goes on.
Give yourself time create trust and faith. Acknowledge things will work out the way they should, and it does not happen on your time. Find a peaceful spot -rest – recover- repeat- leave it in God’s hands.
