We recently connected with Timmy F and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Timmy , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I feel like my work ethic comes from going with out a lot of things as a kid and young adult. What drives me is fear. I’m afraid of going back to where I was at that point in my life. So it keeps me working hard. There are times that I get to comfortable and began to slow up a little bit but I feel like everyone has those days. I don’t stay in that space for to long. I snap out of it pretty quickly and remember how I’m not as far as id like to be quite yet
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m an up and coming street wear designer and singer song writer. The most exciting part about what I do is seeing folks that are able to relate to the things that I create. Whether it’s a new song I just made or a new piece I’ve constructed from my brand. Random people from online that I never met or knew existed would reach out to me telling me about a tough time my music was able to get them through. Every time that happens it’s truly humbling for me. Most of my childhood I feel as if I lacked attention so I would either act out or show off my talents to get the attention I yearned for. So now as an adult to be able to received some sort of attention or recognition from doing something I love to do it truly warms my heart. Another thing that gets me excited about what I do is when folks hit me up to purchase and wear something I designed for a special occasion such as there birthday or some sort of concert of festival, Its literally a dream come true for me.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
3 Qualities that were most impactful on my journey I would have to say is Discipline, Consistency and Determination. Discipline is not going out on a Friday night to hang with the guys because you know you have work to do and deadlines to meet. Discipline is when the hottest pair of shoes just dropped and there screaming your name but you fight the urge to get them because you know you have a savings goal you plan to reach. If you stay disciplined you could stay focused! Consistency is grinding and working toward your skill/craft every single day without letting up. Despite the reaction you get from your peers and social media. Likes and shares don’t matter. What matters is the fact that they see you doing what you love on a day to day basis. If they didn’t believe in you then soon you’ll leave them with no choice but to believe. Determination is doing something you hate to do like you love to do it. As if no matter what occurs it has to get done. Treat every goal like that and you’d be one step closer to your dreams.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
The current challenge I’m facing right now is finding balance between the two things I love to do. Which are both designing clothes and making music. They both bring me the same joy and even sometimes they bring me the same pain. Only difference is for now I can profit off clothes way more than I’ve been profiting off my music. Also if I’m being honest another challenge I’m faced with all the time is being able to believe in myself. Some may not admit it but its actually one of the hardest things to do at times.
