We recently connected with Timothy Doaty Ii and have shared our conversation below.
Timothy, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I think this is something that just improves over time right? You start off having this idea or belief of what you can do or how great you can be at something, but then you fail and boom that’s when it gets real. I think you just over time learn that you are your own worst enemy, nobody takes you as serious as you do and people’s opinion of you don’t define you in the end. Being authentic in who you are bleeds and oozes confidence and self-esteem, so I just try to be myself, not put too much focus into what others think or believe of me while understanding that people generally don’t think about me the way I would like to give them credit for doing and that’s what works for me.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Well I do have a full-time job in finance, but my passion is pouring into our small business and making content for my podcast. Honestly I think what makes my podcast, Cerebral Chaos special is how it is set up and what we aim to do. I like to call it sensical non-sense, because one episode we will talk about mental health and in another episode we’d rank our favorite food items! I strive to make others laugh and make them think, I believe those are two beautiful things about the human experience that we all could use a little more of in these times. So when I designed the podcast, I wanted it to be about something that I’m passionate about and those two things are really making people laugh and being inspirational. So we touch a wide array of topics covering so many issues that we deal with as people while not going to hard and also being light hearted and fun in other episodes. I love the balance there and I think it something unique, and I don’t take myself too seriously either so that’s always a blast and I like it to come through to my listeners.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Wow, this is a great question. I would say the first thing is just not being afraid to just do it and invite the opportunity for failure. Being open and vulnerable with my audience and giving them who I am and not trying to morph into a character or persona keeps the podcast authentic and YouTube, lots of YouTube! Doing research on how to start, equipment, software etc, there is a lot that goes into that process and just working your way through can be difficult and overwhelming but the end result is rewarded if I’ve help to make one of my listeners laugh, think or take on some sort of emotion while listening. Advice I have for others looking into getting in the field is just do it, don’t be so hard on yourself, and have fun!! Don’t take yourself too seriously!
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did was they always pushed me to be great. I was told at an early age that everything I wanted in life I would have to work hard work, twice as hard as others and to never be satisfied with anything less than greatness. These values that were instilled in me helped to develop the man I would become down the road and continue to drive me to be the best I can be!
