We were lucky to catch up with Tj! recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi TJ!, great to have you with us today and excited to have you share your wisdom with our readers. Over the years, after speaking with countless do-ers, makers, builders, entrepreneurs, artists and more we’ve noticed that the ability to take risks is central to almost all stories of triumph and so we’re really interested in hearing about your journey with risk and how you developed your risk-taking ability.
I developed this ability through understanding who’s risk it was. in the beginning I struggled a lot with insecurity. Taking advice from people that saw personal benefit in my passion. once I began to recollect on why, and who I started this journey for. I started seeking new foundation. which led me to the belief that risk is a part of self discovery. I risk a lot through the vulnerability of my music, and the inspirations that help me write. I do a lot of shadow work to overcome social anxiety. I’m not afraid to experience new things or people. If you don’t risk something you aren’t trying. I go places I’ve never been to alone. I put my self in rooms and speak life even if the person is of a higher status. I always stay true to who I am even in my music, and today that is the biggest risk of all.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I’m an artist that makes story based eps, and lyric videos! I get excited for projects cause it gives me the freedom to have fun and be creative. each ep has been different so far ,and I’m looking to add variety to my catalog. so far you’ve heard me mix neo soul, r&b, indie rock, rap, and electronic music. who knows what the direction of the next one will be with the first edition being a twilight zone spin off and the second being a satire tale of real events dedicated to my late grandfather Norris Sinclair Williams.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I feel like I am still early In my journey honestly, but it took some time for me to find what I like. once I did though I stuck to it. a valuable skill to start with would be discernment. going in blind expecting everyone to be likeminded is basically a death sentence. there will be people who love to see you behind them but stay focused on your path. another skill would be adaptability. the world changes every day even as you are reading this. you have to keep a steady pace, but be prepared to move. finally you have to have tough skin. your belief has to be rooted in you. not the people who say they support you cause support truly isn’t going to come until the rest of the world catches on!

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Get some fresh air! I always go to centennial park when I feel overwhelmed or stressed to clear my mind. my therapist would take me there as a child where I felt more free to talk about my home life and my interests. It definitely didn’t have as many occupants as it does now, but I still feel the same peace. find what coping mechanisms best suit you!
