Meet TK Lee

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to TK Lee. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

TK, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I’ve always been a daydreamer, my headspace has always been my favorite place to be. That’s probably why I ended up in acting. Sometimes it feels almost destined.

For me, keeping creativity alive is about staying open to it whenever it shows up, and choosing to spend time in that space. If I’m preparing for a role, for example, my mind lives in that character’s world. Even when I’m showering or brushing my teeth, I’m imagining how they’d move or speak. Out of nowhere, an idea will pop up, maybe in rehearsal, maybe in the middle of practice and I’ll try it to see if it works.

Creativity has a habit of showing up unexpectedly, so I think the trick is to keep your mind open even when you’re not working. Whether you’re watching a movie, listening to music, having a conversation, or just daydreaming. Inspiration loves to sneak in when you’re not looking.

It’s not always easy, and I’m guilty of missing those moments too, but I do my best to keep my creativity alive.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an actor.
I love my profession because well, it’s fun!
For me, this is the only job where I actually enjoy the work. Before acting, I dipped my toes into a few other worlds. Clerk, waiter, bank teller, escrow company, real estate agent… you name it. But sitting behind a desk or chasing sales? It wasn’t for me and I could tell my soul was dying in there.

As an actor, I get to live different lives. I get to step into fantasy worlds or dramatic situations I probably wouldn’t experience if I were living an ordinary life doing something else. I get to play with my imagination, collaborate with other people, and possibly inspire others. I also get to leave a mark on the world through art. How amazing is that?

I’ve worked on countless short films, a few feature films, web series, vertical films, and I just wrapped my fifth episode with Dhar Mann Studios, my second time as a lead with them. That episode should be hitting YouTube soon.

I’m deeply grateful for every opportunity I’ve had so far, and I’m even more excited for what’s coming next.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I’d say the three qualities that have been most impactful for me are optimism, imagination, and communication.

If I hadn’t been optimistic about this journey, and if I hadn’t surrounded myself with equally optimistic, supportive people like my fiance and my mom, I wouldn’t have come this far. When I switched careers from real estate to acting, almost everyone I knew was against it. The negativity was constant. So I cut ties with those who doubted me and focused on my new path alongside the people who truly believed in me. I’ve never regretted that decision.

Imagination is not only essential for this career, but it’s the core of what makes us human. I think it’s one of the most unique abilities we have compared to any other species. We can sit down in front of a screen and laugh, cry, or even get angry over something that isn’t even real. That’s because we are imaginative creatures, and that ability to feel something deeply from a story is what makes art so powerful.

Communication is a skill I learned to value later, but it’s one of the most important, not just in acting, but in life. It shapes relationships, builds trust, and can open or close doors in an instant.

For anyone starting out, here’s how I think you can build these three qualities.
To grow optimism, surround yourself with people who lift you up and believe in you, and don’t be afraid to walk away from those who drain your energy or feed you doubt.

To strengthen your imagination, feed your curiosity. Watch films, read stories, observe life, and let yourself wonder “what if?” without judgment. And most of the time, try to remember that listening to your headspace is more fun than listening to youtube or a podcast.

And for communication, practice listening as much as you speak, and be intentional about how you connect with others. Clear, honest exchanges will open more doors than you think..

Finally, make self-reflection a habit. It took me time to recognize my own mistakes, but doing so has kept me grounded and on track. Reflection keeps your vision clear and your purpose alive.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

Having someone to talk to can really change everything. It depends on the situation, but luckily, I’ve got good people around me who actually listen.

But if you’re so overwhelmed that you don’t even have the energy or time to talk it out, honestly, I’d say grab some sleep aids and get some solid rest.
I deal with insomnia myself, so I take meds when I need to.
And trust me, good sleep isn’t just about feeling better physically, it clears your head, too.
