We were lucky to catch up with T’Keya Devine Alex recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have T’Keya Devine with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?
At 12 years old I decided I wanted to enter the workforce, for years I had a desk set up to my grandfather’s who is an engineer and would assist him in billing and small tasks so I always enjoyed working. I had a deep love for horses. So I got online, searched around, picked up the phone, called and sold myself as a 12-year-old letting them know I was hard-working, a quick learner, experienced with horses, and wanted to work. After getting a letter from my school counselor stating they approved, along with many rides from my Papa… I started working at a stable on the weekends with beautiful Arabian horses, and every variety between. By that summer I was working at a law firm doing reception and office management. I did that for the next several summers and enjoyed feeling like I played an integral role in such an important business and of course loved having my own money to spend. Over the years I have worked a variety of “jobs,” and ventured into many careers. About 10 years ago I landed on Instagram sharing my outfits, tutorials, and reviews purely for fun. Years later, I have been able to make some great connections with wonderful brands, experience things I never imagined, and educate myself so much on products, such as skin care, hair, care, and gadgets. I was also able to make some money for a product, promotion, reviews, and creating content for brands.Ultimately my goal is to be a full-time influencer and be able to share my passion for all things, fashion, beauty, and the lifestyle.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I worked in the home healthcare field for nearly 10 years. In January 2024, I had a freak incident that landed me on life-support, a ventilator, dialysis, and more. My kidneys, liver, and all vital organs failed. I had ammonia on my brain, double pneumonia in my lungs and had aspirated. I had sepsis, strokes, and flatlined repeatedly. The team at Swedish Medical Center were absolute miracle workers, and literally saved my life! Following that incident I did not think I would be able to return to work at alol and felt that the home healthcare space was no longer something that I would be able to execute with perfection and ease. After making a full recovery outside of a permanent heart condition known as Takatsubo Syndrome (Broken Heart Syndrome,) I was so happy that I would not have to live the rest of my life on SSI/disability. However I knew it was time for a career change. I started caring for my uncle and he unfortunately passed right when I was starting school the very next day. I decided to go through with it and not push it off while grieving and multitasking while clearing out his apartment, planning a funeral, and attending school. I graduated and successfully passed my practical exams in phlebotomy. About a month later I decided to take a state exam which I ACED with a phenomenal score. I am now working for renowned physician in Cherry Creek as a medical assistant/receptionist, and I have many hats that I wear at the office between. Ultimately , I would like to move into a space where I am utilizing phlebotomy more regularly as I deeply enjoy the art of drawing blood. I was fascinated by the anatomy, biology, and chemistry that go into phlebotomy. Over 60% of all health, diagnoses and treatments begin with the drawing of blood. So many things can be caught, and so many lives can be saved. And that is something I want to be a part of. I am a person that always feels like I can have it all. While I work full-time there, I also am a certified lash technician, and blogging is really what I love to do. Why pick one when you can do it all? My dream ultimately is to become a stylist and move permanently into the fashion space. But I also care deeply about my patient care so I feel like I get the best of both worlds.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My ability to connect with people, my determination and refusal to give up, and my willingness and eagerness to learn, have definitely been the most impactful skills, qualities, and areas of knowledge that have contributed to my growth and have helped me along my journey. If you are just starting out, don’t know what to do, feel like you are failing, or are stuck in self-doubt? Know that YOU GOT YOU! What is meant for you will always be yours as long as you chase it. With perseverance and determination I truly believe that you can achieve. It can get discouraging and it can be very depressing playing this game called life. But without those stressors, failures, and not so great days… The beautiful moments would not feel so triumphant. Reminding yourself that you can make a difference, not only in YOUR life, but also for OTHERS will be your saving grace. My advice would be to focus. Definitely always keep a job and have income while you are pursuing your dreams. You can’t go where you want without capital and you can’t invest in yourself nor your craft without it. No one wants to work a job, we all want to do what we love. But sometimes that means sticking it out and seeing things through even if it’s just long enough to get to what you really want to do. My biggest piece of advice is don’t give up. I took a two year hiatus from my blog and I felt like it ruined me and I would never come back from it. Over the last several months, making sure that I’ve been consistent and giving my all I have been able to secure some brand deals and experiences I otherwise would not have been able to enjoy.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I am always so excited to collaborate. Whether it’s with a product review, going to a location and experiencing a show or an event, or being sent products to try out and share my opinion with my friends, family, and followers that is what I love to do. I would absolutely love to work with more fashion designers and clothing/ apparel/ lifestyle brands. I feel like there is no limit to what I am willing to try when it comes to a collaboration. I am not huge on AI but lately I have been given a bit of a shot with a few app developers who reached out with some very cool concepts that I just could not pass up being a part of. I hope that 2026 brings more in person collaborations with local brands and individuals and of course that I am able to continue my virtual and online relationships and grow my followers as well as my influence. I dream of working with brands like Walmart, Sephora, Target, Amazon, and with all of the brands that they carry in store and online. I also would love to work with and support local creators, clothing makers, and fellow beauty lovers, influencers, and entrepreneurs. I love Moroccan Oil, I love Tatcha, & adore Huda Beauty, Fenty all around (hair, skin, and apparel,) and I’m so passionate about the difference they have made in my hair and skin as well as confidence so they are definitely on my list of companies/brands to work with. I would love to partner with and spread the joy of looking and feeling good that they provide.
