We recently connected with Todd Henderson and have shared our conversation below.
Todd, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My dad is one of the hardest working people I have ever met. Growing up I saw the hours that he put into his career and how much he traveled in order to be successful in the medical consulting field. He has always devoted his time to go above and beyond for his family and teach those values to his children. He taught me that this dedication could lead to greater opportunities and help me excel later in life. I have applied these values into my every day lifestyle and practice a good work life balance along with enjoying my personal time in the mountains.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am a craftsman who creates functional woodworking products as well as artistic wall paintings. I started taking art classes at a young age and have been painting for most of my life. Painting really inspires my creativity which has lead me into the field of woodworking. I have combined these arts to create beautiful wall art and various wood products that people can utilize in their homes. This year I have taken on many art shows and outdoor festivals to display my inventiveness. I also currently display my work on my social media pages and will soon be opening an online store. My favorite part about my art is the interaction with people and telling the story about my pieces. Nothing makes me happier when my inspiration is appreciated by others.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Patience, good problem solving skills, and ambition are my three most impactful qualities. Patience isn’t about waiting, but about maintaining a good attitude throughout the process. Success is developed only with perseverance and understanding that sometimes with success, there will be failures.. Embrace the journey, strive to learn something new every day, and keep an open mind. You can accomplish anything that you put your mind to!
Before we go, any advice you can share with people who are feeling overwhelmed?
When I feel overwhelmed, it drives me to keep creating. If I am stuck in a rut, I try to focus on the end result knowing it will be great when I am done. I will then put my focus on a different project to get the creative flow working again. This usually changes my outlook and lightens my attitude. After some time, I go back to the original project and finish it.
