We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Todd Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Todd below.
Todd, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
I owe my extraordinary work ethic to my family. From a young age, I watched my parents wake before the crack of dawn to pursue their ambitions. My father balanced a full-time technician role at Disney World while also running his own AC repair business, waking up at 5 AM every weekend, rain or shine, to deliver for his customers. On the other hand, my mother showed up day in and day out as a real estate agent, committed to working toward her dreams. Growing up, I was immersed in their quiet determination: mindful of excellence even when motivation was low. That consistent example didn’t just shape my own discipline; it taught me resilience. I learned that true commitment means showing up even when it’s hard, and those lessons continue to power my drive today.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I like to describe myself as a multi-hyphenate filmmaker shaping the new wave of independent creators. After earning my Bachelor’s in Film & Screenwriting from SDSU, I founded my video production company, creating everything from marketing campaigns and documentaries to narrative films, while growing a dedicated YouTube following with “Todd Foolery.” Currently, as Co‑Founder and Chief Content Officer of Quickflick TV, I’m committed to democratizing film financing and distribution, putting the power back in the hands of creators and viewers alike.
My latest passion project under Penjot Media Group, “Unrequited,” is a Black LGBTQ+ web series that showcases my range not just as a producer, but also as lead actor and editor. Through strategic marketing, community outreach, and industry connections, episode 1 hit 50K views in just 30 days, proving the impact grassroots productions can have in today’s digital ecosystem.
With expertise spanning post-production, podcasting, and music, I fully embody the “greenlight yourself” ethos, creating compelling, authentic content that speaks to both niche audiences and broader communities. In an era where storytelling thrives on genuine creativity over traditional gatekeeping, I’ve built a career rooted in authenticity, resilience, and the belief that creators should define their own green lights.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the most impactful forces behind my journey have been passion (bordering on obsession), the ability to pivot, and relentless curiosity. I’ve always had an insatiable need to learn & to understand deeply. That fire has turned research sessions into time warps leaving me asking, “wait… I’ve been doing this for how long?” But that same curiosity has also taught me to remain flexible. I’ve never been rigidly attached to one plan or path because I’ve seen, time and again, how things rarely go according to plan, but often turn out even better than imagined.
To anyone still searching for their passion, I’d say rewind. Revisit what fired you up as a child; what would you spend hours & hours doing? Now, find a way to weave that into your life now and most importantly, be patient. Passion doesn’t always strike like lightning; sometimes, it unfolds slowly and evolves along the way. That’s where curiosity and the willingness to pivot really matter. Don’t box yourself into a single route or method. Study other people’s paths to success, and just as importantly, their failures. But don’t copy them. Stay open, be adaptable, and trust your own way forward. That’s where the magic happens.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Community drives everything I do, so I’m always on the lookout for folks to collaborate with, and I’m very open-minded about how that partnership manifests. It all ties back to my curiosity and ability to pivot. Collaboration doesn’t have to happen in any “traditional” way; it can be as simple as saying, “Let’s talk,” and letting curiosity guide us as we learn about each other and discover how best to support one another.
Whether I’m working with filmmakers, actors, authors, musicians, or entrepreneurs, I’m drawn to dreamers. Folks with a “figure it out” attitude. Resilient folks who have stayed the course despite the challenges. Forward-thinking folks who are looking for new & innovative ways to do things. And folks who just like to have fun while doing that.
