Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Todd Stabelfeldt. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Todd, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.
Being a C4 quadriplegic, I was driven to find my purpose due to the need for independence. As my world is largely dependent on others, doing everything in my power to free myself and increase self-reliance is my purpose. Consequently, I work hard to do meaningful work and to have as much control over it as possible. So, I now run my own business. There are two sides to it: 1) my database management services, and 2) my speaking services which are focused mainly on occupational therapist / assistive technology groups. By continuously educating people through speaking engagements, I’m able to enhance the understanding of people in my condition which leads to the development of better technologies and treatment methods for me and others. On the database side of my business, I get to grow in my leadership and technical knowledge providing myself a sense of value along with a higher level of independence.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
C4 Solutions, my corporate name, has 2 brands for which I’m continuously working to grow awareness. On the technical services side, C4 Database Management delivers SQL server solutions focused on laboratory information systems. The unique knowledge and years of experience of my staff coupled with the technologies we’ve developed enable us to provide niche healthcare IT delivery services that are reliable and well maintained. The other side of the business leans on my name as an established keynote speaker. I’ve spoken at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference on the corporate side and to many assistive technology organizations such as Assistive Technology Access Partnership of Connecticut.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Tenacity: Staying at something when it gets challenging can be tough. But focus like a laser and clear away distractions to make sure you see things through to the end.
2. Communication: Treating people respectfully and professionally at all times provides rich benefits. You’ll get a lot more out of any situation by stating your needs clearly in a pleasant manner with people.
3. Enjoyment: Celebrate the victories (regardless of their size) each time you accomplish something you set out to do. Such rewards will drive you to go after things just as hard the next time you have a goal to reach.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My wife has helped me develop many aspects of my life. On the speaking side of my work, she’s my sounding board and provides great feedback and insights to enable me to continually develop as a speaker and storyteller. Fortunately, our story continues to grow and evolve which enables me to gather more to share with others. On the database work side, my wife is my partner in strategizing how I could better run the company and set new goals to enhance it. Her understanding of good management methods, the practical aspects of properly organizing both resources and people, and communicating effectively with customers and coworkers, enables C4 to grow and thrive.
