Meet Tomide Bamigboye

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tomide Bamigboye. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tomide below.

Tomide, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I keep my creativity alive through a diverse range of activities. I immerse myself in the world of literature by reading books that challenge my perspectives and inspire new ideas. Exploring art museums allows me to witness different forms of expression and craftsmanship, sparking my imagination. Watching movies exposes me to various storytelling techniques and visual aesthetics. Additionally, I find solace and inspiration in music, which serves as a soundtrack to my creative process.
Beyond these cultural pursuits, I actively seek out life experiences that broaden my horizons and deepen my understanding of the world. I like to experience new places and try out unfamiliar activities. This helps add layers to my creativity. As a creative, it is important to keep feeding your brain in order to come up with good ideas. The best artists often pull from their personal experiences. That is why as an artist, the best thing you can do for yourself is to not only exist but actually live life to the fullest.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I am a writer, director, and producer. I have made over 5 short films. My focus lies in shedding light on pressing social issues, particularly those surrounding mental illness, neurodiversity, and societal trends. My films have been shown at multiple film festivals all around the world. I am grateful to have won a few film festival awards in USA and Canada.
My latest project is called Dissecting with Darcy, it is a short thriller set in one location with one character. The film talks about the dangers of social media, the need to be famous, and how it is affecting society. Dissecting with Darcy is currently on its festival route.
In 2022, I wrote and directed another short film called The Spectrum Of You. This film raises awareness about neuro-diversity, specifically autism. It is also a coming-of-age film that deals with figuring out life as a young adult.
With each project, I strive to amplify voices that often go unheard and shine a spotlight on issues that demand our attention. As I continue to evolve as a filmmaker, I remain dedicated to crafting stories that resonate deeply with audiences and inspire positive change in our world.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Firstly, it is important to have an inquisitive spirit. We are always going to be students, constantly learning and evolving. No matter how great we are at what we do, it is necessary to stay open to new ideas and experiences. That is what ignites our creativity.

Secondly, be confident. Trust in your abilities and vision, even when others may not. When working on a project, when you walk into a room, when talking to someone, always be confident. And on the days you don’t feel confident, just fake it, no one has to know.

Thirdly, be humble. Treat everyone with respect and kindness. Express gratitude for even the smallest gestures of kindness.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

My parents have been a constant source of unwavering support throughout my life. Whether I embarked on a seemingly impossible venture or pursued a dream that others deemed impractical, their support never wavered. But perhaps the most profound expression of their support lies in their prayers. Knowing that they constantly pray for my success, health, and happiness instills in me a sense of profound gratitude and reassurance. Their prayers serve as a constant reminder that I am never alone in my journey.
