Meet Tommia Hartsfield

We were lucky to catch up with Tommia Hartsfield recently and have shared our conversation below.

Tommia, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
All of my life, I’ve been overwhelmed by what I see and hear. My husband calls it “a gentle mental.” Over the years, I consistently and unconsciously did four things as a result of having a gentle mental : I learned, applied, wrote, and talked/taught about everything I saw and heard. Sometimes I did all four of those things based on things I didn’t see because, in addition to my mental being gentle, I also have a very “vivid imagination”. As I got older, and closer to God, I realized that my ability to transform knowledge into skill was not as common as it seems. The way I understood things was not common. The way I applied things was not common. The way I wrote things is not common. The way I talked and taught was not common…which is why I was chosen to do it. Finding my purpose was simply a process of identifying what set me apart from other people, and not hiding it because it made me different, then showing God to come in and perfect it. As a result, when I write, and people read it, they feel. And when I speak, and people understand, they seek the Lord and begin to heal.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
From fast-food to CFO, I have done it all. It wasn’t until I found purpose in serving a purpose by helping and empowering others that I truly became who the Lord chose me to be.
Despite all of my accolades, I have dedicated my life to learning life and the imperfections within myself in order to assist others in reaching their full potential and finding their purpose. Through seeking God, embodying the fruits of the spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), self-exploration (I Corinthians 11:28-32, II Corinthians 13:5, Psalm 51, Lamentations 3:40), discipline (James 1:23-25), dedication to becoming virtuous (Proverbs 31), repentance (I John 1:9, Acts 17:30, Psalms 119), and sacrifice (Romans 12) I decided to truly present myself as a living sacrifice for God and reasonably serve those who need a little help finding their way.

As a result, I launched BODI-WORK UNLIMITED LLC. BODI-WORK Unlimited is a multi-faceted institution of excellence. Currently, BODI-WORK provides online TEA-approved Continuing Professional Education Courses for Teachers and Administrators. Starting this year, BWU is preparing to launch online coaching services for families seeking an alternative to traditional counseling practices. We will be offering coaching for individuals, couples, families, and organizational leadership consulting/coaching starting in April.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Focus, dedication, and willingness to learn has been my strength throughout my lifetime. As a result of those three things, I restored my identity, I gained an extraordinary relationship with God, and an intense level of mastery in my profession. Less than 5% of the world’s population hold a doctoral degree. After 4 and a half years of focusing, being dedicated, and willing to learn, I received my physical Doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Organizational Development/Leadership on 12/20/2022 and I’m currently completing the final chapter for my spiritual dissertation as we speak. For those who are still unclear about who they are and where they’re going…I encourage you to examine where you came from by asking yourself for questions.
1. What did you see and hear along the way?
2. Because of what you saw and heard, what did you do?
3. Did you Ask God what He saw and heard? If so, what did He say? If not, then when will you?
4. When you do ask Him, and He responds, how you can use what He saw going forward? Because that’s how you find your purpose.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The Bible and my spiritual dissertation were the most impactful pieces of literature that pushed me forward. The Bible says “All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not” (Matthew 23:3). This was a game changer for me because more often than not, people say or advise, but don’t live by what they say and advise. Does that mean their advise or conversation is invalid? No, it just means that their not following the spirit of God that’s speaking through them. So, the Lord used that to help me complete my last task for my spiritual dissertation which was to face me outside of me. Then He asked me “Are they worthy?” My initial feelings wanted to say no, but that would make me a hypocrite. So, I said not yet. Why? Because they needed an example of what it looks like to say and do, and I’ve dedicated my life’s work toward being that example.
