Meet Tony

We recently connected with Tony and have shared our conversation below.

Tony, thanks for taking the time to share your lessons with our community today. So, let’s jump right in – one of the most essential skills for unlocking our potential is self-discipline. Where does your self-discipline come from?

It began with sports. In high school I committed to the training and dedication required for hockey and lacrosse, which eventually led me to become captain of both teams. That work ethic carried into film school, where producing, writing, and directing demanded long hours. Weekends were often spent finishing my own projects or helping classmates with theirs, and there was no shortcut other than putting in the time. As a freelancer now, discipline continues to be essential. The work often comes through referrals, and I have found that the more effort and care I invest in each project, the more opportunities continue to open up.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a freelance Location Scout and Manager based in Los Angeles, where I work with directors and producers to find the spaces that bring their stories to life. My career has taken me all over greater LA on movies, commercials, and television, including projects like Netflix’s Monsters, Disney’s American Born Chinese, and FX’s Snowfall. What inspires me most is the collaboration involved and the constant variety, since every project presents a new challenge and a new community to engage with.

Alongside my work in film, I am also a musician and photographer. I released a short film on Super 16mm titled When Skies Are Blue and an album called Ladyslipper created with collaborators from Holland, Michigan and Chicago. I continue to develop new music and photo projects while building on my film career, which keeps me both inspired and balanced. My latest release is a protest song titled America, now available on all platforms.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Curiosity has been one of the most important qualities in my journey. It pushes you to keep learning, to explore new ideas, and to challenge yourself. Optimism is another, because how you choose to see the world shapes how you experience it each day, and a positive outlook makes the challenges easier to face. Finally, developing financial literacy with an entrepreneurial mindset has been critical. When you understand how money works and how to manage it, you can make better choices, maximize opportunities, and give yourself the freedom to keep pursuing your passions.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki has been a huge influence in shaping my curiosity and understanding of financial freedom. It’s an accessible read that shifts your mindset from thinking the world just happens to you by asking, “How can I make this happen?” For me, it was just the starting point in financial literacy and has been a springboard for exploring the topic more deeply.
