Meet Tony Malzone

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tony Malzone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tony below.

Tony, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?

A human is the greatest art form, and the human experience is the greatest story. Humanity has defined creativity, and it is our creativity that defines us. Creativity has made us the most advanced species our world has ever known. It’s enhanced our human experience to know no bounds other than that of our own imagination.

When we think of eras past, it’s not the mundane that survives our memory, it’s the progressive leaps in innovation and society. The bold statements in fashion, music, and film. The enshrining of significance in physical art, and architecture, and the groundbreaking discoveries that open new worlds. One day, when everyone of today is no longer around, what will remain is what we did here, what we made here. For some, there will be a day when your name is said for the last time, when the last memory of you is revisited, that is when someone truly dies. But for the ones who create, the ones who build, the ones who discover, those are the ones with a line written in our great big story, and those are the ones that live forever. So go out and create, this is what we live for.

Human creativity is everything we’ve ever been and everything we could be in one cohesive story. I produce work that pushes the bounds of creativity, and enhances the human experience. That work is at the center of my belief that anything is possible, and that at the center of our human development, will always be our creativity.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

At the moment, my biggest project is making people happy. There’s a lot of pain in this world, that’s not a commentary on the world at its current state, but rather a statement of humanity. Humans are emotional creatures; we will feel pain. We will feel love. And we will feel happiness. My hope is that my work can be the light of someone’s day, their week, or something even more significant. Although art and entertainment can sometimes feel like a silly game, and in many ways, it is. What we do means something. Stand in the back of a comedy club or a music venue. Take in the sounds, watch the people’s faces. That person up there, up on that stage, that person’s making them laugh, that person’s making them smile. That means a lot more than people realize. That crowd out there, they’ve been in pain. They have bills to worry about, maybe a sick family member, or just the simple stresses of a day. That laugher, that smile, that may mean more to them than we could ever know. There is a magic to that, there is a true visceral magic to that. Just another human, standing up there, doing what they love, and the people love it too. Those are the little moments in life we all cherish. Those are the moments that years later we often say, “you just had to be there”.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

A lyric of Phoebe Bridgers says, “It’s amazing to me how much you can say when you don’t know what you’re talking about.” I learned early that you don’t need to sound like the smartest person in the room. You don’t need to be the one to blurt out what you think the plan should be. You don’t need the answers to everything right away. Listen. Listening is not about taking, it is about giving. Give people your time, give people your attention, and they will give you their effort. They’ll give more to you than you’d be able to take for yourself. You cannot do anything alone, and you never will. Embrace the hands that reach out to you; it’s not a weakness, it will be your greatest strength. We need each other as much as the world needs you. The world needs your talents, the world needs your skills. But before you make your grand speech on the world stage, listen to yourself. Listen to your needs. Listen to your friends, listen to me. Listening will get you exactly where you need to be.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

As a producer, you keep your head straight, but your eyes are always looking around the corner. I’m always looking for the next generation of stories and experiences. I’m always looking for people and projects to collaborate with, finance, and introduce. If you have a script, a great talent, or an interesting project, never hesitate to reach out at TonyMalzone.com/Contact, email me, or message me on social media.
