Meet Tony Schippa

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tony Schippa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Tony , so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?

I spent most of my career in Emergency Medical Services. I was a first responder and paramedic for over 35 years. I have been retired for 10 years and the Community HeartSafe Program seemed like a very appropriate step in the same direction for the next chapter of my life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

We are a Non-profit organization that is raising money to place AEDs (Automated External Defibrillator) out in our community.
We offer free one hour Hands only CPR classes and how to use an AED. The American Heart Association tells us if we start CPR and use an AED in the first couple of minutes of a person who suddenly collapses and shows no signs of life we double and triple their chance of survival. When teaching a class: The part that excites me is when people taking the class start showing confidence in how important they are in helping to a saving a life. My mission in teaching the classes is to impower people to start CPR and use an AED without hesitation.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Having positive mentors, Blessed to have a job that every time I was clocking-in it felt like the first day, Never stop learning/studying about your passion.

If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?

Being 71 years old, and working in Emergence Services (EMS) for 35years. I have learned that everyday you wake up here you have been blessed with another day to start over from the day before. Happiness is not something that can be bought, Happiness is a sense of life meaning and purpose.

The answer to the question is: I would continue to share my passion about life having a purpose and always helping and serving others.
