Hi Tonya, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

From enduring a lot in life and definitely my children. I must keep being the best I can be. I have to keep going.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I’ve sang my whole life. Growing up, I performed at any place possible. When I was 15, I was approached by a man that turned out to be Justin Timberlake’s grandfather.

Fast forward, I ended up signing with Motown and released an album under Unverisal records called “I represent” in 2001, even touring with NSYNC.

After a little fame I stepped back and started a family. After almost 25 years I’m back with my new song “nobody loves me like you”.

I am working on a new album, events and performed as well as partnerships and more! I am so excited for this “Resurgence “!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

One is talent. You can definitely sharpen your tool but learning different instruments or take vocal lessons.

Two would be perseverance. You have to be able to take constructive criticism and keep going no matter how many times you get knocked down or told “no”.

Three is keeping integrity and remembering who you are. If you feel a situation or moment is “off” trust your gut!

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

Definitely my mom. We’ve been through so much together and I owe her everything!! I have a great support system.
