We were lucky to catch up with Toria Germain recently and have shared our conversation below.
Toria, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
When I first began my journey as an entrepreneur, there was a lot of internal enthusiasm. As the journey continued, I quickly learned that I definitely did not know all there was to know to be and stay successful as a photographer. The lessons I learned are invaluable! One of the main ones being that the most critical voice you’ll hear is the one in your own head. “This isn’t good enough” or “I should have done…” is one of the things you’ll always be faced with as an entrepreneur.
The best thing to do is to recognize that there is no such thing as perfect. There is always room for improvement, and my willingness to get better day by day has allowed me to overcome imposter syndrome. By embracing the idea that growth is a continuous process, I have learned to quiet that inner critic and focus on progress rather than perfection. This mindset shift has been essential in helping me build confidence and keep moving forward in my journey.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am a boudoir photographer dedicated to creating a space where women can fully embrace their beauty, embody their sensuality, and capture the most stunning images they have ever seen of themselves.
At my full-service boutique studio, I take pride in offering a seamless boudoir experience that is both relaxing and empowering. My goal is to help women connect with their feminine energy and leave the session feeling confident and celebrated.
We specialize in creating timeless art that captures women in the present moment, providing them with beautiful memories to cherish as they grow older.
We are currently offering our Black Friday in September sale, a special opportunity for those who wish to give their significant other a truly personal gift. This early promotion allows us to carefully plan each session and ensure that albums and wall art are ready in time for the holidays.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that have had the greatest impact on my journey are my excitement for life, my desire to learn, and my background in occupational therapy.
One thing I’ve learned about selling is that others are drawn to your excitement. My enthusiasm for life made it easier for me to connect with clients and share my passion throughout this journey.
My desire to learn has been invaluable. It allowed me to absorb insights from mentors and coaches, helping me not only to understand the business side of things but also to continually improve my photography skills.
My background in occupational therapy has given me a deep understanding of the human body and a comfort level in working closely with clients. I’ve even had moments where my experience in helping patients, like assisting a client with putting on fishnets, came in handy—I knew exactly how to do it with care, ensuring everything stayed perfectly intact!
For those just starting their journey, my advice would be to remain open to learning from everyone you encounter while also using discernment in deciding whose advice to put into action.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My husband has been the most helpful and supportive person in both my life and business. On our first Christmas as a married couple, he gifted me my first DSLR, which was the beginning of an incredible journey. He’s always there when challenges arise, offering a listening ear and helping me think things through. He also ensures I have the time and space to study and practice my photography.
When I started Ignite Boudoir by Toria G. six years ago, our son was just 11 months old. Despite the demands of family life, my husband has consistently supported my entrepreneurial endeavors, and I couldn’t be more grateful for his unwavering love and encouragement.
