Meet Tracey Morrison

We recently connected with Tracey Morrison and have shared our conversation below.

Tracey , so glad you were able to set aside some time for us today. We’ve always admired not just your journey and success, but also the seemingly high levels of self-discipline that you seem to have mastered and so maybe we can start by chatting about how you developed it or where it comes from?

I believe that my self-discipline has been instilled in me since childhood. I was fortunate to have a strong support system in my parents, who helped shape me into the person I am today. My father planted the seed of greatness in me and my siblings, and as a child, I believed I could go out into the world and make my mark. My mother, on the other hand, instilled in me a deep sense of gratitude for my journey and taught me to carry myself with humility.

From a young age, I knew I had talent and potential within me, and I also understood that obstacles would come. I learned the importance of pushing myself, staying focused, and maintaining a strong spiritual foundation. Being a great problem-solver and finding solutions when challenges arise became essential principles in my life. I didn’t want my talent to go to waste, so I stayed motivated, pushed myself, and celebrated every victory—big or small—because I knew each step would elevate me to the next level. There is always victory on the other side of self-discipline.

I never wanted to live with regret, and I always knew that self-discipline would require sacrifice in order to grow and advance through each stage of life. So far, I’ve seen what discipline has helped me achieve. My self-discipline has led me to cover many events, both locally and nationally, and to interview numerous individuals, including celebrities such as Adele Givens, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Bill Bellamy, Hulu reality TV star Shane Dougherty, former NFL Pro Bowler Greg Ellis, Essence Atkins, and many others.

I’ve also had the privilege of conducting red carpet interviews with David Banner, Win With Black Women founder Jotaka Eaddy, Grammy-nominated gospel artist Jonathan McReynolds, Big Freedia, Anthony Hamilton, American Idol singer Gabby Samone, Byron Cage, Lance Gross, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, members of the NFL Gospel Choir, and many more.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m the owner of The Exclusive Press, an independent news company based in North Carolina. I cover a wide range of stories, including trending news, politics, opinion pieces, entertainment, celebrity news, events, lifestyle, travel, community heroes, HBCU stories, HBCU sports, Black news, and more. I also create social media content for The Exclusive Press, and stories through our story platform, IN SEE Culture, covering North Carolina related news, culture, entertainment, and much more. In addition, I interview celebrities on red carpets and cover events of all sizes.

Planned expansions for The Exclusive Press include Legacy Hub, a story platform dedicated to highlighting the HBCU culture. Future growth will also include more partnership with other journalist to dive deep in covering more Black stories, expanding the platform to cover Black folklore stories, and rebranding “The Exclusive Talk” podcast.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Consistency: Consistency has been the key factor that has supported my progress and growth. It has opened many doors and created opportunities for me to produce more stories, cover more events, increase my following, and build partnerships with additional publicity companies.

Tenacity: My dedication to cultivating my gift reflects my passion and seriousness about my craft. I have made many sacrifices to elevate my skill set. Improving your skills often requires doing things you may not feel like doing, including pushing through long and tiring nights. My commitment to managing my time by dedicating specific hours to my craft has also contributed significantly to my growth.

Creativity: The field I work in requires creativity, imagination, and the ability to bring stories to life through social media content that keeps followers engaged. Creativity has allowed me to explore my imagination, step further outside my comfort zone, and share my ideas with the world.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

My biggest area of improvement has been expanding my business into red carpet affairs and pushing myself to get out there more. I wanted to elevate my news company, and I knew that required stepping beyond the limits of my hometown and putting myself in new spaces. Another major area of improvement has been diving into podcasting so viewers can see the face behind The Exclusive Press. So far, I have completed four episodes, and the podcast will soon be rebranded to feature consistent, regularly scheduled segments.

Consistently improving myself has been deeply motivating, and it inspires me to keep exploring the paths that growth will lead me down the road. I welcome those opportunities with eagerness and joy.
