MEet Traci Barrett

We recently connected with Traci Barrett and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Traci, so happy to have you on the platform and I think our readers are in for a treat because you’ve got such an interesting story and so much insight and wisdom. So, let’s start with a topic that is relevant to everyone, regardless of industry etc. What do you do for self-care and how has it impacted you?
I schedule a full rest day every week. To some this may seem obvious and to others this will sound insane.

My brain is always on overdrive. Im constantly thinking of a million things and creating new ideas. My brain needs a full rest day every week. I’m also a Mom. Where some may find a day at the park with their kids their rest day, that is simply not enough for me. I need total shut down to reboot. I call my rest day a rot day. I just simply rot on the couch. I don’t respond to emails. I just sleep and watch crap tv. I have found that by offering this to myself every week I have been able to avoid burnout and bouts of depression.

Figure out how your brain works and hack it.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
My name is Traci Barrett and my brand is Traci. I have been doing hair for 20 years, with a ton of artistic ventures along the way. I spent the majority of my career in LA focused on beauty work for editorial, advertising and celebrity. I am currently living in the desert of Arizona where I have recently opened my own salon studio and am working to evolve my personal brand into behind the chair education and products.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think looking back over the last 20 years what I’ve learned, that really helped me succeed, is:

1. Don’t take things personally. Everyone is living in their own world with their own lens. Most peoples decisions aren’t about you, it’s about them.

2. If it doesn’t feel good don’t do it. Your gut is usually right.

3. Success is not linear. There will be many setbacks. Make sure you take the time to learn the lessons. You’ll need them.

Bonus – Surround yourself with people you respect and inspire you.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
The Four Agreements. I think that everyone should read this book.

Never take anything personally.
Be True to your word.
Always do your best.
Don’t make assumptions.

This book is so important in so many ways. These things are hard to do. I feel like when I’m doing then all though I can stay in a flow state.
