Meet Tracie Collins

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tracie Collins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tracie below.

Hi Tracie, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?
I truly appreciate this question. Succeeding as the sole individual in a room who shares my unique background as a Black Woman has been a journey rooted in recognizing the richness of my distinct life experiences, education, and career path. Embracing the understanding that my perspective carries immense value has been pivotal. Consequently, my presence in environments like this is not only warranted but absolutely indispensable.

Additionally, I am acutely aware that countless young Black girls and women are observing or aspire to occupy these same spaces. Hence, it is of paramount importance that I serve as a positive representation for them, demonstrating what is achievable.

Moreover, I highly regard those who paved the way for me to stand in these spaces today. Their sacrifices and achievements have paved the path for my presence, and I carry their legacy with great reverence.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Tracie’s advocacy extends to the broader community as well. In recognition of her contributions to arts and entertainment and her efforts to address the human trafficking epidemic, the Mayor of Oakland, California, declared March 14th as Tracie Collins Day in 2015.

As an artist, Tracie delves into the hidden stories of Black women, addressing topics others might consider taboo. Her autobiography, “Special Delivery,” chronicles her triumph over adversity while revolutionizing the birthing industry for Black and BIPOC professionals. Set to be released by the end of 2023, this book is an inspiring narrative for every Black girl, encouraging them to persevere in pursuing their dreams and purpose.

In her personal life, Tracie is happily married to her best friend and cherishes her role as a parent to three adult children.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
My life journey has been profoundly shaped by three qualities and areas of knowledge, all of which I’ve drawn from the profound lessons of motherhood.

First and foremost, being a young mother has instilled in me the unwavering belief that where there’s a will, there’s a way. This indomitable spirit has become the cornerstone of my entrepreneurial voyage. As an entrepreneur and business owner spanning two decades, I’ve come to understand that solutions exist even in the face of daunting challenges. As the leader and visionary, it’s my solemn duty to navigate and surmount any obstacle in pursuit of our mission.

The second pivotal lesson is the power of knowing your “reason why.” This intrinsic understanding serves as the ignition for my daily motivation. It’s the force that propels me out of bed every morning with unwavering determination; once you grasp your “reason why,” you unearth the wellspring of resilience and drive within you.

Lastly, the most enduring lesson I’ve learned is never surrendering and remaining adaptable. Life is a perpetual dance of change and evolution. Acknowledging the inevitability of change is the first step, and embracing it is the next. I’ve welcomed change and allowed it to mold me and spur growth. I’ve embraced the role of a lifelong student, knowing that wisdom emerges from experiences, successes, and perceived failures.

As a bonus insight, I’ve come to realize that there’s no such concept as failure in life—instead, every endeavor results in either a victory or a lesson. Every setback becomes a stepping stone to future success. I’ve also learned the invaluable art of betting on myself, recognizing that my belief in my abilities and aspirations is the most potent currency in my journey.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely, I am actively seeking collaboration opportunities with individuals who share my passion. My goal is to connect with people and, together, inspire women and young girls by instilling in them the unwavering belief never to give up.

My life’s purpose is to serve as an example for all, showing that when you Bet on Yourself and follow the divine vision entrusted to you, you are capable of achieving remarkable feats. I aspire to inspire others to take that bold leap of faith, holding onto the belief that if you align with your vision, the universe will provide.

I am determined to contribute to solutions rather than dwelling on problems, as society often does. Instead of offering false hope, I believe in acknowledging the uniqueness of every individual’s journey. Just like you, every pathway is distinct and intricately designed.

In essence, I am wholeheartedly open to collaborating with like-minded individuals, companies and organizations who resonate with this message of hope and empowerment. Together, we can make a meaningful difference.
