We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tracy McGee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tracy, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Our ultimate purpose here on earth is to honor and glorify the Lord. (1 Corinthians 10:21) How I apply this in my own life is through homesteading and self-sufficiency. I never would have imagined that this would be my life. I was a beauty consultant with Mary Kay for 16 years but I went through a bit of an identity crisis and a health scare after we moved to this property in 2014. Both of those events led me to this path of healing, not just for myself and my family but for others as well.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am super passionate about helping others to learn more about homesteading, herbalism and self-sufficiency from a Kingdom perspective. I believe that the worldly systems that we currently depend on are not only broken but have also become idols in our lives. These systems have made us sick physically, mentally and spiritually. I am working on a program that will help families to break free from those worldly systems to become more self-sufficient and have a closer relationship with the Lord.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Faith is the number one priority. You must have faith in the Lord. Our relationship with Jesus is the most important thing. Without Him we have nothing. He has already provided us with all that we need to accomplish our purpose.
It’s also important to always be learning. Most people spend their entire life acquiring things that can be gone in an instant. Acquiring skills gives you the ability to thrive no matter the circumstances.
Do the work. The Bible says that faith without works is dead. Our faith requires something from us. Yes, God has provided all that we need but we have to be obedient to complete the tasks that He has given us. Learning new skills is great but we must implement them in our lives if we want to see the results.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
The Lord has definitely been the most important person in this process. The only way for me to continue doing what I’m doing is through the strength and guidance that I receive from Him daily. There have been many people who have helped me along the way but I know that every one of them has been sent to me by Him. I wouldn’t want to do any of this without Him.
