Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Trang Huynh. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Trang, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?
To me, avoiding burnout is the key to preventing creative blocks in the first place—it’s tough to create when you’re exhausted. When a block does hit, I step back and remind myself that not everything I make has to be groundbreaking or reflect all my experiences. I still put thought into each piece, but I don’t pressure myself to make every work ‘the next big thing.’ Creativity, in my opinion, isn’t a linear journey; it has its ups and downs, and there’s a lot of beauty in embracing that. Visiting museums, galleries, and looking at other artists’ work is also refreshing, as I can admire and get inspired without the pressure of comparison

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My name is Trang Huynh, and I’m a visual artist from Vietnam currently based in Baltimore as a resident artist at Creative Alliance. My work explores the intertwined relationship between love, pain, and forgiveness, allowing me to express myself, bring forgotten stories to light, and connect with others. One of my favorite parts about being an artist is the spontaneous connections I make—like when I’m carrying a painting down the street, and someone stops to tell me how my art resonates with their own experiences.
Right now, I have a solo show at Maryland Hall in Annapolis titled Tangled Affection, and my works are also featured in galleries around Baltimore, including the Asian Cultural Center at Towson University, Maryland Art Place, and Enoch Pratt Central Library. If you’re in the area, please check them out! I’d love to hear from you—feel free to reach out via Instagram or email and share your thoughts and feelings!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are empathy, curiosity, and resilience. Empathy has helped me connect deeply with others and build meaningful relationships. It also includes having empathy for myself—knowing my limits and prioritizing self-care. Curiosity has led me to new places and brought countless new experiences into my life, sparking growth and inspiration. And resilience is what has kept me moving forward through tough times. It’s the ability to take small steps, to pause instead of giving up, that has allowed me to make it this far.
For those early in their journey, I’d say: cultivate empathy by truly listening to others and to yourself. Nurture curiosity by staying open to learning, even in unexpected places. And practice resilience by allowing yourself to rest and reset, knowing that persistence is built one small step at a time

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I’m always open to connecting with fellow artists who explore themes around cultural identity, love, and healing, and would love to build meaningful relationships with others on a similar journey. It would be wonderful to collaborate on a show or project that weaves together our unique perspectives. If this resonates with you, feel free to reach out!
