Meet Travéy

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Travéy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Travéy, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Honestly, I never really did. I come from a place where people tear you down before they build you up, so accomplishments aren’t praised often by the peers around you if they aren’t involved. What I can say is that being in those situations helped me build a stronger foundation for what I believe in. I isolated myself in a way that helped me build trust in myself to become what I wanted to be, and pursue what I wanted in life, wholeheartedly.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
Slumped Paradise is a multi conglomerate entertainment company with the sole purpose of bringing entertainment opportunities to Mississippi and surrounding areas. In Mississippi options are limited as to where to develop an artistic craft. Our goal at Slumped Paradise is to bring artists of all caliber and skill a place to better develop themselves and have the tools and resources they need to have a fair chance at success!

This summer Slumped Paradise will be doing its share of community service and going out and helping clean the city of Jackson! From picking up trash to cutting overgrown brush, we will be out making a difference from the ground level up!

Don’t forget to check out our Instagram! And get you some merch today!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Resilience. This I would put first because in this line of work, there can be a lot of unforeseen difficulties that can or will set back your trajectory. in those times you have to know how to act quickly to gain your footing again.

Having a purpose would be the second most important to me. Without a goal in mind, you can’t build on anything and you won’t have a foundation to keep you motivated. In this line of work, a purpose can be what keeps you from giving up. You can work for what seems like forever before finally coming into a career changing opportunity.

Relationships and Networking. This would be my third most important but also the advice I would give to beginners. In this career but also in life , relationships you have and impressions you make on people can be very important to the growth in your career. Networking for the benefit of creating long lasting relationships is what helps builds foundation for your career to have a much higher success rate.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
The past 12 months have brung so many life altering events and changes that I would be a stranger to me from a year ago. With every hardship comes growth. Growth is uncomfortable because it’s new and unknown, but it’s always for the better because it builds a part of you that wasn’t there before. My biggest area of growth would be my belief in myself and my understanding of human interaction.

I’ve met many people in the past year, endured many hardships and challenges I never thought I’d come across. With each of those came lessons that have and will benefit my journey in the long run.
