We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Travis Jasper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Travis, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My family, my parents come from the South; Alabama to be exact. They really raised me with the mindset to always push for my goals, and to always put my best foot forward. My pops always said 100% is all you got, there is no such thing as 110%; do your best the first time. That is a mindset that I still hold true to do this day, and a quote that I will one day give my children.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I’m Travis Jasper, a music producer from Manassas, Virginia. I started my music production company named “One Song Away” aka OSA, straight out of high school. This is a family business, that I co-own/founded with my blood brother Tyler Jasper. Since starting the company, we have been blessed to achieve multiple record placements; working with artist/producers such as Snoop Dogg, Chris Brown, Hitmaka, etc. This all started from making beats and writing songs, in our Parent’s basement; so to see our journey and continue growing over the years is truly a blessing. More amazing music is on the way in 2025, that we cannot wait to share.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Persistence is one of the most important qualities to have when following any dream. There will be a million no’s, but all it takes is one yes to change everything. Keep going until you hear yes, it will come.
Patience is a virtue is so true. Everything will not always be on your timing, stay focused through the ups and downs. I always wanted my dreams immediately, but looking back now God was preparing me for the opportunity so when it did come I would be more than prepared.
Dedication, be overly dedicated. Eat, sleep, and breathe your passion. You don’t always have to be the best, but you can for sure outwork the rest.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
As creatives we love to create, but there is always so much more to the job than just creating if you ever want your work to make it out to the public. I focused on using every relationship, and putting more focus on strengthening relationships and seeing projects all the way through. Sometimes as a producer, the biggest part of making the record is dedicating time to get it into the right hands. Every relationship matters, those same people you work with on the daily now, might be the people opening doors for you in 10 years to help make your dreams happen.
