Hi Travis , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
In previous years, I’ve always perceived purpose as the act of reaching a certain plateau of achievement. Recently, I have concluded that every moment holds a purpose, no matter how big or small. I’ve found that these individual moments of purpose have woven together to lead me to what I believe is God’s ultimate plan for my life.

Growing up, I’ve always been passionate about expressing myself through clothes. At the time, I attended ELCA, known for its strict dress codes. On the weekends, social outings allowed me to let the world know who I am through fashion. I’d spend the entire week curating the perfect fit. When I finally got to wear it, I realized people loved my style too. I guess you could say in that season, God was planting a seed in my heart for what was yet to come.

By the end of high school, I had started my first clothing line called Young King Society, which I brought to college attending LSU. I decided to declare my major in International Trade & Finance, which, unbeknownst to me, offered courses that directly intersected with financial management and entrepreneurship. During my collegiate career, I became a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., which taught me brotherhood, service, and love for all mankind, as well as leadership. Looking back, I now realize I was being indirectly prepared to become the man and business owner I am today.

After graduation, I began working as a financial advisor for Northwestern Mutual. Although I had a natural knack for finance, I quickly learned after six months that I was not excited about my work. I faced two options: continue along a path that provided immediate financial security or take a leap of faith. I am happy to say seven years later, and I am glad that I decided to take that leap of faith. I started my clothing store in 2017, naming it 7XCHANGE, which means that if we intentionally choose to glorify God seven days a week, in exchange, He will bless us. I hope that with the rapid growth of the business, this philosophy will not only be shared in my stores one day internationally but inspire the hearts of all who come in contact with my business.

During my time in business, I have been blessed to visit the nation’s major cities and regularly attend showrooms with some of the most well-known names in the fashion world. It has been rewarding and humbling to see what can happen with mustard seed-sized faith. I am excited to see, as my faith grows, how God will expand my territory in the future.

If I could give one piece of advice to any beginning entrepreneurs, it would be to trust the process. Everything will come together if you put in the work, keep God first, and remember why you began in the first place.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
As a millennial entrepreneur, I find that the market is consistently changing oftentimes in a way that is challenging to business. Throughout the growing pains of owning a luxury lifestyle boutique, I’ve learned that passion has been and will always be the prerequisite to success. Fashion integrates and influences all aspects of society and works to bring to life each creator’s interpretation of the world.

At 7XCHANGE, we take immense pride in curating a diverse range of brands, including Billionaire Boys Club, Ice Cream, Purple, Honor the Gift, Represent, CDG Play, Market, ASICS, Adidas, New Balance, and Reebok. One of the most thrilling aspects of my role is the constant pursuit of securing new partnerships with renowned and respected brands like Nike, Adidas, and ASICS. Collaborating with these industry giants not only elevates our brand’s credibility but also enables us to offer our customers a carefully selected array of products that resonate with their individual lifestyles.

The dynamic nature of our work, from trend scouting to negotiation and collaboration, keeps us on our toes and fuels our passion for curating a compelling lineup that speaks to our customers’ preferences. The satisfaction derived from bringing these exceptional brands under the 7XCHANGE umbrella is immeasurable, and it reaffirms our commitment to providing an unparalleled lifestyle experience for our valued patrons.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
In reflection, the three most indispensable qualities that were the most impactful on my journey are faith, diligence, and consistency.

First and foremost, faith in God and in the vision He’s placed within you is crucial. Entrepreneurship is an unpredictable ride, filled with uncertainties. Having unwavering faith in your God given abilities and the value of your idea can help you stay resilient in the face of setbacks. This unique form of faith provides the motivation to push through tough times and navigate uncharted territories. I like to remember that, as people, we can fail, but God never does.

Diligence is the dedication to hard work and continuous learning. As an entrepreneur, it’s essential to commit yourself to research, planning, and a willingness to adapt. Diligence helps you uncover potential obstacles, understand your target market, and refine your strategies. Without it, even the most promising concepts can falter. I personally believe that a strong work ethic sets the foundation for sustainable growth.

Consistency is the glue that holds everything together. It’s not enough to have faith and work hard sporadically. Consistency involves showing up day in and day out, consistently delivering quality work, and maintaining a steady pace. This is what builds trust with your audience, customers, and partners. Over time, consistent effort leads to gradual progress and solidifies your presence in the market.

I encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to prioritize learning, embrace failure, cultivate a strong belief system, and learn the art of adaptability. Remember that the path to success is a journey, and by embracing these principles, you’ll turn your dreams into a thriving reality.
