We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tray Griffith. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tray below.
Tray, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
I keep my creativity alive by staying connected to the culture. With Flydown, I draw from music, street style, and real conversations to keep things authentic. I’m always experimenting with new ideas and pushing boundaries, while staying true to the roots of streetwear. For me, creativity isn’t just about making clothes — it’s about building a movement that keeps Flydown relevant and on track to become one of the biggest streetwear brands of all time

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I run Flydown Collective, a Los Angeles–based streetwear brand built on hip-hop culture, grit, and creativity. What excites me most is seeing how clothing can become more than just fabric—it’s a statement, a way to represent a lifestyle and connect with people who live by the same energy. Flydown isn’t just about selling tees and hoodies, it’s about building a movement that inspires people to make the world Flydown.
Right now, we’re expanding with new drops like our Freeminded Collection and Vault Collection, and I’ve been working with influencers and artists to showcase the pieces in authentic ways. What makes Flydown special is that it’s personal—it started from me designing with nothing but passion, and now it’s growing into something people everywhere can wear to feel confident and seen. For me, the future is about keeping that energy alive and pushing Flydown to become one of the biggest streetwear names out there

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I’d say the three biggest qualities that carried me on this journey were vision, resilience, and adaptability.
Vision kept me focused on building Flydown as more than just a clothing line—I see it as a movement. I had to always think big, even when I was starting small.
Resilience mattered because in streetwear and business, you face setbacks: slow sales, failed drops, rejections. Pushing through those moments is what separates the brands that fade from the ones that last.
Adaptability meant learning on the fly—whether it was how to set up ads, build a Shopify site, or connect with influencers. The landscape changes fast, and being willing to learn and pivot kept me moving forward.
Advice for newcomers: start small but think long-term. Stay consistent even when results are slow, and don’t be afraid to learn everything you can—design, marketing, storytelling. Every skill you pick up makes your brand more powerful. Most importantly, let your authenticity show, because in streetwear people don’t just buy clothes—they buy into energy and culture.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Absolutely. Flydown has always been about building culture, not just clothes, so collaboration is key. We’re looking to partner with creators, musicians, athletes, and everyday people who live that same energy—those who bring their own style and aren’t afraid to stand out. We want collabs that feel organic, not forced, where both sides elevate each other.
If you’re into streetwear, hip-hop, art, or just pushing boundaries, we’d love to connect. The easiest way is to hit us up directly on Instagram @flydown_co or through our website. We’re always open to fresh ideas, new voices, and people who want to make the world Flydown.
