Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Treá Allen. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Treá, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
I knew what my identity was in the Lord, and knew my purpose since I could remember, to be a creative, yes, but ultimately to be obedient. Thankfully, that happens to be in the creative field that I’m in now.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
What’s good y’all! My name is Trea and I’m a creative/fashion designer based here in Nashville. I’m currently the co-creative director/fashion designer for a local brand called Not A Pipe Dream (NAPD) and I also do wardrobe styling and editorial photography.
I am currently working on the release of the next NAPD collection called VITALS in September so primarily I’m focusing on that. We are a lifestyle brand that is focused on building community, making an impact and leaving a legacy.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Consistency, confidence in my identity and loving other the best I can has definitely got me to where I am today in my journey.
The best advice I can give is, treat others well no matter what. Always be the person in your industry that people want around them. That creates longevity in your career.
What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?
Pray and worship. Plain and simple. There is nothing more powerful and impactful than those two things. When you give up ownership of your life, and become a good steward, then anytime you face tough times or obstacles in life, then it’s up to the Lord to take care of it. I’d rather have Him do it than me. Lol cause ya boy ain’t that good at it.
