Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Trelanda Lowe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Trelanda, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?
In short, I got a big part of my resilience from family and friends. However, the rest was from me. It’s always empowering to have a strong supportive network that understands hard work, tenacity, and a like-minded perspective about success. Many people get consumed on the negative of life, or not finding their groove. I always felt it was important to push through all of the opinions, and self-doubt moments that ran through my brain, and remove people from my life who don’t hold the optimum benefit of my mapped-out plans. As a proud disabled woman of color, others must move with resilience, just like I have.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
As an award-winning media creator (filmmaker, screenwriter, photographer, and podcast host), my passion is discussing disability and other marginalized story topics.
My role as president of Vision Edge Media and Bourgeois Magazine LA offers creativity, leadership, and community. Since I’m from various marginalized groups, I understand the importance of creating relatable, authentic content. Utilizing my expertise has enabled me to explore various media. In addition, I have professional experience in journalism, post-production supervising, marketing strategy, advocacy, and mentoring. My other interests include fitness and being a mother.
In the beginning, I was a photographer; later, I moved into film. I have always been fascinated by media due to their creativity and emotional impact. Similarly, screenwriting and journalism connect readers to the story. As a journalist, I covered red-carpet events. Afterward, I worked as a journalist for Women’s eNews. In recent years, I am an Editor-in-Chief at Lights! Camera! Access! (LCA) is a newsletter disability-branded business where I train intern writers.
Additionally, I am a post-production supervisor with ADA LeadOn and manage my business. I have always believed in collaborating with other production companies because of my connections as a disabled professional.
As an advocate, I have been a panelist with Lights! Camera! Access! (LCA), Reelabilities, and numerous others.
I have also lent my expert eye to judging entrants in various award organizations. Some of many are the Telly Awards, AIVA (Davey, Communicator, & w3), Signal Award, Shorty Awards, and Collision Awards.
As a podcast creator/host, I created the show Phenomenal Disabilities with Tree Lowe. During the show, my community discusses disability pride, personal journeys, careers, and resources. Phenomenal Disabilities with Tree Lowe was born because I didn’t want to hide behind my onset fluency disorder (stuttering). As a result of the launch, I won numerous awards.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
That’s a good question. Well, three qualities are supporting my community (friends, family, and colleagues), giving back to the homeless, and being available as a listening ear. As a result of my compansionate efforts, I’ve received an abundance of love and support back.
The advice I have for others who are early in their careers is find a community base to strengthen your long-term relationship and business goals. Additionally, never expect that you will be a success over night. Understand that any career one choses requires dedication, diligence, and patiences. Be kind, it goes a long way. When others need professional help, give it.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
Of course! The field of media requires an ongoing connection. I’ve done numerous collaborations and it’s so much fun. I like working with creative talents who come from a fresh perspective. I’m not particular about the person’s background, just as long as they understand the core values of leadership to strengthen a business and have fun creating media.
