We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Trenity Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Trenity, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My work ethic may come from my astrological identity as a Capricorn. A trait consistently observed by those familiar with astrology. Growing up I️ was always doing something productive. I find immense joy in channeling my energy into creative endeavors, as it allows me to contribute positively to the world around me. The act of making art has become an extension of my innate desire to be productive, and I find a profound sense of fulfillment in bringing new ideas to life.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I️ always inspire to have an artful life. Majority of my whole life I’ve been surrounded by art and I️ look forward to exhibiting as much as I️ can. People seeing my art in galleries/museums feels like I’m giving back to the world.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Surrounding myself with fellow artists and creatives has allowed me to tap into my full potential, embracing my true self without boundaries. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I turned to painting as my primary medium. This gained significant growth in my skills. I firmly believe that putting in time into your craft will yield remarkable results. As a movie buff, I draw inspiration from the cinematic world, particularly horror movies, which have shaped my artistic vision. A quote that has driven me to push beyond my limits is, “Work until you don’t have to introduce yourself” these words have stuck with me.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
I’ve experienced significant growth as an artist in the last 12 months, with painting being the area where I’ve seen the most profound development. Recently, I completed my largest and most intricate painting to date, a milestone that represents the years of dedication and hard work. This achievement has not only honed my skills but also empowered me to trust in my abilities.
