We recently connected with Trenton Perry and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Trenton, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
Years and years of with the beautiful game of basketball! I’ve been blessed with some of the greatest coaches and mentors from the time I was in middle school till now. Nothing quite as humbling as showing up to a gym and quickly realizing that you’re not as good as you thought you were! It took a few of those visits in order for me understand that I could be as skilled as I wanted to be, as long as I put in the necessary time and effort. Earlier mornings, smarter eating habits, more MADE shots versus shots ATTEMPTED, in workouts. Over time, consistency took root! All the credit goes to those who the Lord put in front of me, to show me what strong work ethic should look like!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I operate my own agency with COUNTRY Financial, where I help people with their property and casualty insurance needs. This work is special to me because it allows me to steward the gifts God has given me in a meaningful way. I felt called to this industry as a way to stay rooted in my community, be face-to-face with people, and serve as a trusted, helpful resource.
My goal is to redefine what it means to be an insurance agency, by becoming a beacon of positivity, advocacy, and genuine connection in every community we serve. My vision is to see every quote spark generosity, every policy fund purpose, and every month begin with a rally for change. To bring that vision to life, my joint agency, known as The People’s Agency, commits to supporting a new nonprofit or community initiative every month of the year.
Every quote results in funds given back, every social media post creates purposeful awareness, and every connection is an opportunity to put service above self. That’s exactly what I want the brand to be known for—not just as an insurance agency, but as an agency that actively promotes positivity and philanthropy.
I opened this agency because this initiative truly fills my cup. I’ve always loved hosting and emceeing events and have found myself doing so for several nonprofits. Insurance is a blessing in that I’m able to marry it with the things I love doing, while still being able to take care of my wonderful family!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I’ll start with charisma. The Lord definitely did not create me to be shy, that’s for sure. I’ve been able to build so many genuine relationships simply by opening myself up to meeting new people and figuring out how I can help (if at all). When I look back at my career path, almost every opportunity came through connections I made, rather than job boards on LinkedIn or Indeed.
Secondly, call me self-absorbed, but I’ve never been afraid of a microphone or a spotlight (my wife would tell you I love to hear myself talk… and she’s not wrong). I’m happiest with a mic in my hand, in front of a big crowd, spreading positivity. I’ve learned to leap at moments of opportunity and let incredible peers and professionals know who I am, what I’m about, and where my heart is. Now, I’ll tell you, I’m rarely the smartest person in the room (though I like to think I am sometimes), and I’m genuinely okay with that. Instead, I work hard to surround myself with people who are, to have them in my corner to learn from and be encouraged by. I try to pay that forward to anyone early in their journey.
My advice is simple: go network, go serve, go find someone to pour into. You never know what one coffee can turn into. More often than not, regardless of industry, give it a little time, and one of you will be able to help the other, whether through a referral, a connection, or even an employer-employee or partnership relationship.
As for avoiding any kind of social awkwardness, repetition is everything. There are countless networking groups where you can practice your elevator pitch, and after a while, the difference between talking to 5, 50, or 500 people becomes irrelevant – as long as you believe in yourself and what you’re saying!

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?
Without a doubt, the most growth I’ve experienced in the past 12 months has been in my relationship with Jesus Christ. I’ve always been a believer—born and raised—but recently I felt Him clearly pull me off the sidelines and call me to steward the gifts He’s given me in a more intentional way.
Keeping Him at the forefront of every step, decision, and word has been transformative! Shaping my business, strengthening my marriage, and deepening my ability to be a present and loving father. By no means am I perfect or have this figured out, but I’ve truly enjoyed this slow, steady growth and remain committed to continuing it.
