We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tresa Sanders. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tresa below.
Tresa, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?
My self-confidence was shaped early on by my older brother Billy, two years my senior. Widely regarded as a tough guy yet refined since elementary school, Billy insisted on me developing thick skin and frequently put me to the test. He gave me invaluable lessons that proved pivotal in my life. At the time, I mistook his actions for bullying, but in reality, he aimed to instill belief in myself and resilience. Subconsciously, these lessons have guided me throughout my life.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
For three decades, I’ve owned and operated TreMedia, a PR agency. My hands-on experience includes collaborating with renowned artists like Jay-Z, Future, Solange, and Ice Cube. The most fulfilling aspect of my career is nurturing emerging talents, expanding their global presence, and advocating for them even before they realize it. Witnessing and being a part of the success stories, such as Jay-Z’s inaugural cover, Solange fighting for and achieving an identity outside of her uber successful sister, or 3 6 Mafia’s mainstream breakthrough, fuels my excitement. Throughout, my brand has consistently represented authenticity and integrity, criteria I prioritize when selecting artists to collaborate with.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
I recommend engaging in business with others, whether it’s investors, collaborators, or partners. There’s strength in unity. While I’ve achieved success independently, I often contemplate the potential outcomes if I had pursued a more collaborative approach. I believe the sky would have been the limit. You just have to be careful of who you collaborate with. vet, vet, vet, and make sure their skills are different from and compliment yours.
Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Good Question. My number one quality is spirituality. I work on developing that everyday because i believe i wouldn’t be where i am without God. prayer works. 2) diligence – Hard work pays off. 3) Rest, if you have no rest you are not at your best.
