Meet Trevor Joseph

We were lucky to catch up with Trevor Joseph recently and have shared our conversation below.

Trevor, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.

For me confidence is subjective to time. As an independent artist, I wear a lot of different hats. There’s times when I’m creating music where I’ll be making my beats, writing my songs, recording the same verse 100 times to make sure I like my delivery, mixing and mastering my songs where I listen while adjusting the same 5 seconds of a song because I want to EQ it perfectly. For those times I am my worst critic, doubling down every move I make, and second guessing my creative choices.

Then, there’s also times I’m looking for venues to perform, doing shows, and interviews, and public appearances where I get to reflect on my work and see how it relates to people. When I see that there are people who like what I’ve created it helps me realize that the times I feel down are just a part of the process. Through the process my confidence comes from knowing that the more projects I actually finish, the greater the feeling will be when I look back to reflect on my work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I’m a rapper born in Kissimmee, and based out in Orlando, Florida. I currently handle all of my music endeavors on my own. From writing, and producing the music, performing the songs, to creating the visuals, designing my merchandise, making the connections, and doing all the paperwork. My music consists of songs fueled by motivation, and wit to get up and create the life you want around you. I want my music to encourage people, as well as encourage myself that we can make anything happen as long as we get up and go make it happen.

I started making music when I was 14. Today I am 32. Growing up, music was the place I could be honest, and express my inner thoughts. After a long time of understanding my brand with no lack of artist development, I’m currently preparing for a city tour, starting in Orlando, Florida, and hopefully branching out to Tampa, Daytona, and Jacksonville.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I would say knowing what you want is first and foremost. You have to pick it for yourself instead of waiting for it to pick you, because only one in a million times will a dream career actually pick the dreamer.

Second, is to learn the skill of goal setting. The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. Make plans to progress with deadlines of beneficial accomplishments. This immediately sets you apart from people who have an idea and the people who have an actual career.

Lastly, pay attention to what you’re doing. Don’t let other people’s progress or process intimidate you into thinking you’re not good enough. Run your race, keep your pace, and enjoy your progress as it comes.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?

I’ve always done everything myself. I don’t regret choosing to move alone at all, and I think that up until this point it’s been necessary. I always wanted my music to take off, and to become very successful, However, I think if I had a strong team early on I might’ve blown up too quickly which could have made it hard for me to develop as well rounded adult who is still an active artist.

Now that I have developed, and my artistry has stood the test of time, I am interested in putting a team together to build and grow with. If I didn’t have to do every aspect of my music on my own, my whole operation could move much faster, and reach heights that I can’t imagine possibly reaching on my own. I need a manager, photographer, videographer, producer, and a DJ who enjoys what they do, and would like to build with me. The best way to reach me is through my instagram @trevsurl
