We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Trevor Rain a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Trevor, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
Today I wanted to talk about my upcoming mixtape Pain Healed 2 , it is a sequel to my very first mixtape I ever released (Pain Healed). I saw recently a Tyler The Creator interview where he basically said nowadays artists don’t talk about their music enough or give any value to it. Everything is about gimmicks nowadays. So I wanted to start with talking about how my first mixtape came together. The very first song I ever dropped was called Pain Healed, I dropped it on SoundCloud only back in March of 2021 when I first started my journey in music. The song was okay but i eventually ended up deleting it because it doesn’t compare to anything else and was really just a demo. So another month went by after that songs release and I had about 10 songs ready to drop and was gonna just drop 6 as an EP supposed to be called “Sound Searching” but I ended up just using the 10 songs I had and put them together as a mixtape which came to be Pain Healed as we know it now. This is the tape that I discovered my signature sound. I call it Melodic Pain Trap.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
So Pain Healed starts off with the song “Pain Healed” which was originally “Pain Healed Pt.2” but after removing the original song and turning it into a mixtape i decided to just rename the song to Pain Healed because I didn’t want to confuse anyone looking for a part 1 that isn’t there. The song is told in a 3rd person perspective where I’m talking about myself as I reference saying “he” a lot. The hook is one of the best of entire project and the lyrics are motivational and inspirational. Track 2 is “Chosen One” and this song was the very first melodic song I ever made. I love this song so much right after hearing it for the first time I played it over and over about 20 times. The song is about me feeling like the chosen one after everything that I’ve been through and me still being here today so I felt at the time that I must be chosen for this life. As we go to track 3 “Slide On Em” this one is a fun little track about a feeling of wanting revenge on those that have done me wrong or hated on me in the past. It’s like I’m gon slide on em and let’s see what they say in person not just over the phone or internet. Track 4 “Ease The Pain” is another little groovy track about being heartbroken but still pushing on. This track i actually shot my first video on with an iPhone but i never released it, it’s just hidden in the vault somewhere. Track #5 is my favorite track on the project called “Let Go” this track is about not being able to let go of someone and wondering why . Lyrics like “Why they hate me” and “why can’t I let go” are some of the bars you can really feel the pain in my voice on them. Track 6 “They Don’t Know” is another one of my favorites here about people clowning on me because of my race thinking I don’t experience any type of pain or I come from the suburbs because I’m white but really I never grew up in the suburbs, I never been rich or nowhere near at all and I been through so much that probably 99% of the population ain’t been through. So as I say in the lyrics “They don’t know what I done been thru, they don’t know what I done seen” really hit hard on this track. Track 7 “Honest” is a track I wrote about trying to be in honest in a relationship but the person you’re with doesn’t even care about how you feel so it’s me saying let’s be honest with each other about how we feel. Track 8 is “By My Side” in fact one of my favorites I’ve ever made. The message in it is how all my friends changed up on me and how my gun will never leave my side and will protect me instead of having friends around. And finally the last track # 9 “On Forever” is about moving on from a past relationship forever and never looking back.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
So that’s the first mixtape summed up, now I’m still in the process of recording and writing the last half of the tape but most songs are already planned out that I haven’t finished. I plan on having 12 tracks with 10 being pain songs and only 2 of them being more hype type songs. There will be a sequel song to Pain Healed, I plan on releasing the first single “Stressed & Depressed” very soon along with a new music video. This song is one of my favorite songs ever. This song has gotten me through a lot of hard times recently and I can’t wait to share it with the world. Also with what has happened to me recently and almost getting signed to a major label I will be exposing and talking about what goes on behind the scenes in the music business.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
I plan to have 1 or 2 features on this project. One being a new collaboration and the other being a past collaborator.
