Meet Tricia Campbell

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Tricia Campbell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Tricia, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

That’s a good question, I was never this confident or had amazing self-esteem. I alway thought I was never enough, not tall enough skinny enough or smart enough. After going through being fat shamed and discriminated against for the color of my skin and looks. I begun to tell myself this is just not the way.

Just a quick story, 18 years ago my mum died of colon cancer. When she became sick my family and I was devastated. Seeing my mum fight for her life was such a sad feeling. That experience showed me we only have a short time here on earth and we must live in gratitude and thankfulness for our health and bodies. So that’s when I had my AH AH moment . Then I gave my life to god. Then all hell broke loose.

I was tested in my modeling career and in my love life. I went through a nasty breakup at first it was heartbreaking, then I got coaching and mentoring wish felt so freeing. It was finally time to start to travel plus free to live the adventurous life i always wanted to live.

Then I remember the words of my mother it is not where you are from or what you are going through you are wonderfully and beautifully made by God so keep on shinning your light .

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I am a island girl at heart, born and raised in Montego Bay Jamaica. Which allowed me to fall in love with feeling the sand between my toes at the beach. Fast forward to many years later, after high school in Jamaica I migrated to NYC and attended the Fashion institute of Technology. Where I studied Fashion Design and graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts in Fashion Design.

After graduation I started working as a fashion designer in the garment district in NYC, then I quickly noticed the unfair beauty standards in the fashion industry. This felt familiar because while entering The Miss Jamaica Beauty Pageant I WAS FAT SHAMED.

Imagine almost killing myself trying to fit into THE COOKIE CUTTER BEAUTY STANDARDS of the world. Quick story : So I entered Miss Jamaica as a USA size 13. Of course, I was the biggest body type in the pageant.

I made it to the finals. HOORAY. Then a pageant judge NOTIFIED ME “TRICIA you are beautiful, talented and intelligent but we need you to shape up your body mainly your belly and thighs. Of course being the go getter and competitive young lady I am . I decided to go on a crash diet for 1 month eating only fruits and water. Thinking I would loose the weight. OMG by week 2 I fainted and almost died from hunger and dehydration. Guess what? When the judges saw me again they asked for my travel credentials passport and proof of age. When they saw that I was only 13years old I was disqualified because I was too young to go to Miss World .

They said you have to be 18years old and up. Looking back now, I almost died before my time trying to fit in. That surely was not the way.

After facing traumatic scenario feeling like I’m not skinny enough, pretty enough, tall enough and intelligent enough. Those dark emotions affected my confidence for years. IT MADE ME HAVE FAKE CONFIDENCE. Which means you present yourself as confident on the outside, but on the inside you hate your body plus you are scared angry and live in fear.

Watching my mum get diagnosed with colon cancer and then passing away a year later. I GAVE MY LIFE TO GOD. Then all hell broke loose. My love life and career life became a battle. Then I went through a crazy breakup that set me free in more ways than one.

My advice to others who would like to conquer these amazing qualities in their life is prayer, obedience and action
