We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Trina Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Trina , really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Ever since I was a teenager working as a candy striper at University of Maryland Hospital, I wanted to be in healthcare. My mission is to inspire people to never give up on their dreams, to walk in faith while staying determined to achieve their goals despite what they may see. Never let your age, gender or your past dictate your future. My purpose is to serve and my entire career has been doing just that and now I empower my employees to do the same. One of the companies I built from the ground up is to serve our elderly population by providing them excellent care in the home based setting. Allowing them to receive great care and maintain the at home comforts. My journey has taken me many places to touch many lives my latest purpose project is New Beginnings Behavioral Health. New Beginnings serves people from all walks of life by providing them access to the mental healthcare they need to live purposeful lives this has been one of my greatest accomplishment thus far.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
My husband and I first company was birthed out of my love for the elderly population, I saw that they were underserved to say the least so I knew I needed to do something to help. I opened T&J Home Health 1 (which at the time I didn’t know there would be a #2) to allow seniors to have a home setting feel and not have to be placed in large facilities that would cause them to loose the at home feel. and independence. Shortly after I had so many residents I opened T&J Home Health 2 and our beds are completely full with amazing residents. With that goal being achieved after the pandemic I saw how people struggled with Mental Health care and the lack of services was alarming. That’s how New Beginnings Behavioral Health was birthed. I currently have one office and I just moved into my second. Mental Health is so important and I want our clients to be able to get the care they need without delay. What’s most exciting about my journey is seeing the growth and smiles in the people I serve. Our second New Beginnings Office is currently accepting new clients so if you or someone you know needs services please keep us in mind.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Dedication- No matter how many obstacles I continued until I achieved my goals.
Commitment to serve- I never allowed circumstances to interfere in serving my clients.
Problem Solving- I saw a need and instead of just complaining I came up with solutions
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
At an early age my parents stressed to treat other how I wanted to be treated. The bible states in Matthew 7:7 says “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. Our God supplies our every need and if he is our supplier than I can give freely as it has been given to me. That is how I have been successful in my goals because they laid the foundation of God and serving others.
