Meet Trina Severson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Trina Severson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Trina, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

Growing up, I was surrounded by strong, inspiring adults who shaped my understanding of work and success. My father was one of the biggest influences in my life. He started his own business, determined to succeed on his own terms. Watching him build his business taught me invaluable lessons about independence, perseverance, and the satisfaction that comes from creating something of your own.

My older sister also played a significant role in shaping my work ethic. She boldly shifted her career industry to better balance her life as a successful career woman and a devoted mom. Her ability to adapt taught me the importance of flexibility and determination in creating the life you desire.

At the core of my work ethic is the belief that doing something you love is essential for success. For me, that passion has always been creativity, specifically in the form of professional portrait photography. Ever since I picked up my first camera, I’ve been captivated by the ability to capture moments and tell stories through images.

Photography isn’t just a hobby for me; it’s a continuous journey of learning and growth. The constant evolution of techniques keeps my mind engaged and my creativity alive. Experimenting with new methods ensures my work remains fresh and innovative.

As I pursue my passion for photography, I am grateful for the foundation laid by my family. They have instilled in me the values of passion, perseverance, and the endless pursuit of growth. My work ethic continues to flourish as I embrace the joy and fulfillment that comes from living a life fueled by creativity.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I focus on Photography as an intimate wedding and portrait photographer based in Southern California, locally photographing from Big Bear Lake to Long Beach, but available for travel. This includes photographing weddings, engagements, families, and single portraits.

What sets me apart from other photographers?
I’m all about bringing high energy, breaking the nerves, and eliminating awkwardness so everyone can have fun! I tailor the vibe of the day to your comfort.

What is my photography style?
I utilize natural light to uniquely highlight landscapes and people, and incorporate sun flares and artistic softness in the foreground/background where possible. I aim to dynamically capture movement, whether it’s the sway of leaves or lively interactions. My editing style enhances true tones and vibrant colors while maintaining a natural look.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Looking back on my journey, three qualities have been most impactful: learning from others, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a positive attitude.

1. Learning from Others:
Networking and learning from others have been invaluable. People are often eager to share their experiences, which can provide new insights and ideas not only for those early in their journey but longer in a career too!

2. Customer Service:
Delivering excellent customer service has been crucial. Every client deserves the best. Remember that how you treat clients reflects your personal and professional brand. Focus on always striving to exceed expectations.

3. Positive Attitude:
Maintaining a positive and professional attitude has significantly impacted my success. The energy you bring affects everyone around you. Embrace challenges with resilience and adaptability. A positive attitude not only helps you but also inspires those you work with. Start every day with a smile! It helps.

How would you describe your ideal client?

As a professional photographer, my ideal client values quality and seeks to build a professional relationship. They appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship involved in capturing life’s most meaningful moments and are willing to invest in high-quality photography that preserves these memories.

I particularly enjoy working with clients who are interested in documenting their entire journey—from engagement and wedding to their life together.

Additionally, ideal clients are open-minded and collaborative, trusting my expertise and being receptive to creative ideas. They also appreciate the personal connection, understanding that a strong rapport enhances the entire experience and leads to authentic, heartfelt photographs.
