Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Trinity Steidinger. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Trinity, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
Having a strong work ethic was taught to me by my parents, business owners as well that built a successful company. They each worked over 70 hours a week for as long as I can remember, which taught me the value of hard work and how it can pay off. I was raised on a farm, and they taught us how to take responsibility in caring for animals, and how to put in effort to get the results we wanted. From the time I was 12 I worked for their company in the summers, on school breaks, and after school to help out. Being able to watch them lead their team and problem solve taught me an invaluable amount that I’m now able to apply in my own field of work.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
A while back, I became passionate about real estate, and how many different avenues inside real estate there were to make money and create passive income. I worked as an intern for a Realtor, and I was even more intrigued. My father and I got into fixing up houses and flipping them for a profit, and that’s when I discovered the ins and outs of construction, remodeling, and project management. Knowing this is the path I eventually wanted to take, I got my real estate license to make flipping houses easier and to save money in the process. Soon after, the market in Prescott for remodeling shifted, and we saw an opportunity to start the business. We’ve now been in business for close to 8 months, and can’t believe how blessed we’ve been to maintain a full schedule with jobs booked out. There is nothing I’d rather be doing, and I’m truly blessed to have found something I love to do. Not only as a career, but a business that will be around for years to come.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
For me, the best way to learn is by watching and doing. I didn’t go to college, so the way I gathered so much knowledge was by finding fields I was interested and working my way up in whatever industry it was. One of those jobs was working for an financial firm, doing financial planning and asset management for our clients. I learned about all sorts of things about different investment accounts, how taxes affect them, how the stock market works (to a degree) and creating budgets. I’ve been able to use this countless times, especially when managing the finances of our construction company. Leadership is a skill that comes with understanding people, patience, and conflict resolution. I’m still not where I need to be, but I’ve come a long way and its essential to running a business. Another thing I believe is a skill, is problem solving. Keeping a level head about an issue on a jobsite, with personnel, or equipment is of upmost importance. The smallest things can send people spiraling, and learning how to mitigate that and come up with a logical solution is a skill that’s being lost.
To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?
They taught me the value of hard work, by modeling it for my whole life. They taught me that trying new things to find what I love career wise was a good thing, and that college isn’t necessary by any means to become successful as a business owner and leader. The knowledge I gained just by listening as they talked about the business or to their employees is something that would take decades to acquire if I had not been with them and around their office working.
