Meet Trisha Hershberger

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Trisha Hershberger a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Trisha, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

When you are inherently different than what people are expecting – whether that be due to gender, age, race, orientation, etc – it can make it difficult to be accepted in any community. For me, as a woman and especially as a mom, I’m not generally what people expect see when they are looking for gaming, tech or comic/sci-fi/fantasy content. In my 10+ years of being a public figure in these spaces, I constantly have to convince people that I deserve to be there. It’s made me more resilient and more determined in my career goals, although at times it can feel quite defeatist. I try to look at everyday as a new day and not take things too personally. I’m doing what I love professionally and that’s exciting! I’m incredibly grateful for it.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a TV Host and two-time Streamy award-winning content creator specializing in tech, gaming, and fandom entertainment. My passion for gaming, tech and all things ‘geek’ is why I’ve been selected to host for iconic brands such as Nintendo, Google, Dell, Twitch, Intel, and Mattel and have been seen on such seminal networks as Amazon, Disney XD, MTV, Discovery, and many more. In addition to hosting, I’ve been a part of fan favorite online networks such as SourceFed, Nerdist/Geek Sundry, Fandom and more. I bring over two decades worth of experience in the industry to all projects developed by my production company, providing services like writing, producing, social media consulting, brand partnerships, and live events.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I was always interested in video games and that led me to a fascination with the technology that powered them. I also found delight in fantasy and sci-fi literature and a place to call home within fandom culture from a very young age. Having knowledge of these subjects as a fan and hobbyist came in handy when brands and networks were looking for on camera talent already knowledgable in the space.
After becoming known for my hosting work in these areas, I educated myself in production so that I could produce my own content when needed. Having experience in all aspects of production and post-production really opened up the types of jobs I was right for as well as gave me more creative control of the projects I’m involved in.
My advice for any looking to go into an on camera or content creation career really hone in on what they already know and love and create content around that. Just start making things – even though they aren’t perfect. With practice comes skill. The first step is always the hardest.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I’m always looking to work with new creative professionals in the space! Whether you have a project coming up for your brand or personal needs that requires an on camera personality, or you are looking to consult with an established creator on how to launch your own network or social media, I’m happy to help!
