Meet Trisha Swinton

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Trisha Swinton. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Trisha below.

Hi Trisha , thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
I have always had a strong work ethic. I remember waking up at 430 in the morning when I was 15 to work at a deli. I think my work ethic has been shaped by a diverse range of experiences. My journey includes roles in a deli, lifeguarding, teaching, and therapy. Each role presented unique challenges and opportunities which contributed to my adaptability and resilience. Transitioning from an elementary teacher to a special education teacher and then to a therapist reflects a commitment to continuous learning and specialization, showcasing dedication to personal and professional growth.
I currently own a group counseling practice after being in solo practice for over a decade. I think this demonstrates my entrepreneurial spirit and leadership qualities. As a therapist, my work is centered around helping others navigate challenges. This commitment to making a positive impact can be a driving force behind my strong work ethic.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I transitioned from working for a non profit while building my counseling practice at night and on weekends, to full time private practice in 2012. In May of 2021; I hired my first therapist and have since grown to a team of seven. We are 6 therapists and one intern who will be coming on board in a couple months when she graduates with her masters in clinical mental health counseling. My transition to private practice was driven by a need for greater autonomy and a more personalized approach to therapy. Over time, my practice expanded organically as I had an abundance of referrals and wanted to help more people. This growth is a testament to the shared commitment to providing accessible quality mental health services and creating a supportive, collaborative environment for both clients and clinicians. We recently rebranded from Swinton Counseling Group to Entrust Counseling. Our website is www.entrustcounseling.com We accept almost all major insurances including medicaid and we have therapists who specialize in all ages.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
I would say my clinical experience and continuous learning is one along with my compassion for people in general an inclusive our clients and our team. Adaptability and Versatility have been useful as I gained skills from all of my previous careers which led me to the career path I am most fulfilled with. The third is my entrepreneurial spirit as the transition from private practice to group practice is a continuous learning curve. My advice to others would be to pursue a career path that aligns with your passion and values. Do not get discouraged if you start out with one career and decide to pivot and do something else. I would also suggests prioritizing continuous learning and to cultivate compassion and empathy.

Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
My journey has been marked by both personal and professional challenges, and I am immensely grateful for the unwavering support of my husband and three children. Their love and understanding have been my pillars, providing strength during difficult times. On the professional front, the invaluable guidance from my colleagues and other group practice owners has played a pivotal role in the growth of my practice. Their insights, shared experiences, and collaborative spirit have been instrumental in navigating challenges and expanding my professional horizons. I am truly fortunate to have such a supportive network both at home and within my professional community.
