We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Troy Cooper a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Troy , so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
I think it’s all an ever growing thing. Sometimes I believe in myself and sometimes I don’t.
I think the big thing is just always trying to be there for yourself and making sure that you stay true to what you like.
The other thing is having people that you can talk to about stuff and get advice an opinion’s from that you can trust and know it’s coming from a good place.
It’s hard in the world we live in and hard not to compare yourself to others I do it all the time but just gotta talk to myself a lot and try not to listen to internal monologue.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I have a vintage hat brand that I do along with also being a content creator. So I do all the video stuff and photo stuff.
But I my brand is called rottn.
It’s vintage hats that I look for to help with these things not ending up in landfills and finding them a new home for someone else with a new look.
It’s something that I’ve been doing for about 2 years now.
Took a year to figure it out. Other than that I have filmed Bmx for idk 12 years and professionally for half of that.
I’ve started moving into the music scene, and other scenes.( if anyone wants to work together hit me up lol.)
I think it’s super fun to find these hats and give them a new life and continue on with their “story”.
That’s what attracted me to vintage was the story and the hunt for these things.
It’s kinda like Bmx in the sense of looking for spots and something to ride.
Vintage and finding something that you’re thrifting gives the same high.
It’s the thrill of the hunt and when you find that thing, it’s a crazy high.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Ugh idk I guess just learning to not listen to your self all the time like I said previously I think the hardest thing is the self doubt you have at times. I’m still
Figuring stuff out, but it’s something I still battle especially with stuff maybe not hitting the way you want on socials or whatever it might be.
Always remembering your right where you’re supposed too be in life. That doesn’t mean you’re not meant to do that thing.
It’s just that it will take time and keep it up.
It will hit the right people, might just take some time.
