We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Truce Nguyen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Truce, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
I developed my confidence and self-esteem by learning to trust my inner compass. I realized that my intuition is my most reliable guide, and I committed to listening to it—whether the results were positive or challenging. Each experience, good or bad, became an opportunity for growth, reinforcing the understanding that my choices were mine to own, and every outcome carried a lesson.
Over time, I noticed that whenever I followed external opinions or advice that didn’t align with my true self, things rarely worked out for my greatest good. This taught me that we each have a unique path shaped by our personal experiences, values, and perspectives. No one can truly know what’s best for you more than you do.
Living authentically—making decisions that align with my core values and embracing the journey, regardless of the outcome—has naturally built my confidence. When you stand firm in who you are, take ownership of your choices, and learn from each step forward, self-esteem isn’t something you chase; it’s something you cultivate.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
In March 2024, I took a leap of faith and opened Hair By Truce, my private hair studio in the heart of Brickell. After years of working in traditional salons, I knew I wanted something different—something more intentional. I envisioned a space where my clients could not only receive an exceptional hair experience but also feel a sense of calm, privacy, and genuine connection.
I wanted to create an atmosphere that was zen yet professional, luxurious yet inviting. A place where clients could decompress without the loud noises and distractions of a busy salon. A space where conversations could flow freely, without the worry of others listening in. It wasn’t just about hair—it was about the experience, the energy, and the feeling of being truly seen and heard.
Now, as I approach my one-year anniversary, I’m in awe of the love and support I’ve received. My clients have embraced this vision wholeheartedly, and their loyalty has made this an incredible first year. Time and time again, they tell me how much they appreciate the privacy, the one-on-one time, and the sanctuary I’ve created for them. Knowing that Hair By Truce has become a place where they feel comfortable and cared for means everything to me.
Looking ahead, I’m excited for what’s to come. I know there will be growth, and with growth comes challenges, but one thing I’m certain of is that the love and support of the people around me will always carry me through. For that, I am forever grateful.
This journey has been nothing short of amazing, and I truly believe the best is yet to come.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As an entrepreneur, these three pillars have been the most impactful in shaping my journey.
1. Intentionality: Define Your Vision & Stay Aligned
Clarity is power. Before taking any step forward, get clear on what you want and why you want it. Your goals should align with your authenticity and core values, ensuring that every move you make contributes to a better quality of life—whether for yourself or those around you.
Being intentional means making conscious decisions, saying no to what doesn’t serve your bigger vision, and staying committed to what truly matters. Without this foundation, it’s easy to get lost in distractions or pursue paths that don’t bring fulfillment.
2. Strategy: The Power of Thoughtful Planning
Success is built on well-thought-out details. A solid strategy requires planning, researching, and organizing every aspect of your journey.
When I started my business, I mapped out every little detail: how and where to register my company, understanding licensing and fees, researching a location with convenient parking for clients, finding a user-friendly booking platform, etc. These small but crucial details saved me time, money, and stress down the road.
Your strategy should focus on efficiency and sustainability. The more effort you put into planning now, the smoother your path will be in the long run.
3. Money Management: The Foundation of Freedom
Money isn’t everything, but it is a tool for building a fulfilling life. Understanding the basics of budgeting, saving, and avoiding unnecessary debt is crucial.
For me, financial discipline meant creating habits that prioritized stability over instant gratification. Once you master money management, the next step is financial literacy—learning how to invest and grow your wealth. The ultimate goal? Financial freedom. When you control your finances, you gain the power to live life on your terms.
Success doesn’t happen overnight, but by being intentional, strategic, and financially wise, you create a strong foundation for lasting growth. Whether you’re launching a business, pivoting in your career, or simply striving for a better life, these principles can help anyone move forward with confidence and clarity.
What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?
Over the past 12 months, my biggest area of growth has been learning to get out of my own way. I’ve worked through fears that once held me back, silencing both my own doubts and the limiting beliefs projected onto me by others. This journey has been about more than just self-confidence—it’s been a complete mindset shift.
I’ve become deeply aware of my thoughts, recognizing that I am not defined by them. I now see abundance everywhere. I’ve realized that my life is mine to shape, and everything I desire is within reach. The difference now? I fully believe it—and I’m making the conscious decision to go after it.
