We were lucky to catch up with Tugsoyun Davaadorj recently and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, so we’re so thrilled to have TugsOyun with us today – welcome and maybe we can jump right into it with a question about one of your qualities that we most admire. How did you develop your work ethic? Where do you think you get it from?

My work ethic is deeply rooted in my Mongolian heritage, resilience, and passion for excellence. Growing up in a culture that values hard work, perseverance, and integrity, I learned early on that success comes from dedication and a deep sense of responsibility.

My journey—from my early experiences to founding a skincare brand—has been shaped by a relentless drive to create something meaningful. I believe in the power of nature, science, and innovation, and I pour my heart into ensuring that every product reflects that philosophy.

More than anything, my work ethic is fueled by a commitment to quality, sustainability, and empowering others. Whether it’s leading my team, researching new formulations, or staying connected with our customers, I always strive to bring my best. To me, success isn’t just about building a brand—it’s about making a lasting impact

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Three Most Important Qualities, Skills, and Areas of Knowledge in My Journey
Looking back on my journey with Oyu Cosmetics, I can pinpoint three key qualities and skills that have been most impactful in shaping both my brand and my growth as an entrepreneur. For anyone starting out, these are areas I highly recommend focusing on:

1. Resilience & Adaptability
🔹 Why It’s Important: The entrepreneurial path is filled with challenges—unexpected roadblocks, financial hurdles, and moments of doubt. Being able to adapt, pivot, and keep going despite setbacks is what makes the difference between success and failure.
🔹 How to Develop It:

Embrace failures as learning experiences—they are not the end, just redirections.
Stay flexible—be open to change while staying true to your vision.
Build a strong support system—mentors, peers, and advisors can help you navigate tough times.
2. Business & Financial Acumen
🔹 Why It’s Important: A great product or idea isn’t enough—you need to understand how to build a sustainable business around it. Managing finances, understanding profit margins, and scaling effectively are critical for long-term success.
🔹 How to Develop It:

Learn the basics of financial management—budgeting, forecasting, and pricing strategies.
Seek mentorship from successful entrepreneurs—their insights can save you time and costly mistakes.
Join accelerator programs or take business courses—programs like Beta University’s Pre-Accelerator, which I recently joined, are great for refining strategy.
3. Purpose-Driven Leadership & Brand Storytelling
🔹 Why It’s Important: People don’t just buy products—they invest in brands with a mission. For Oyu Cosmetics, our commitment to sustainability, clean beauty, and women’s empowerment is what truly resonates with customers. A strong brand story creates loyalty and impact.
🔹 How to Develop It:

Clarify your “why”—what problem are you solving, and why does it matter?
Connect with your audience authentically—whether through social media, personal storytelling, or community engagement.
Lead with purpose—build a brand that stands for something beyond just profits.
Advice for Those Starting Their Journey
💡 Embrace the learning process—you don’t need to have all the answers on day one.
💡 Stay curious and seek knowledge—whether through books, courses, or mentors.
💡 Take action—progress is better than perfection. Start small, test, refine, and grow.

Success isn’t just about talent—it’s about persistence, knowledge, and purpose. If you focus on these three areas, you’ll be well on your way to making a real impact.

Looking back over the past 12 months or so, what do you think has been your biggest area of improvement or growth?

Biggest Area of Growth in the Past 12 Months
Over the past year, my biggest area of growth has been learning to balance vision with execution—transforming bold ideas into structured, scalable actions.

As a founder, I’ve always been driven by passion and purpose, but in the last 12 months, I’ve honed my ability to:

1. Strengthen Strategic & Financial Decision-Making
What Changed? I’ve deepened my understanding of financial planning, fundraising, and sustainable scaling, ensuring that Oyu Cosmetics can grow efficiently while staying true to its mission.
Lesson Learned: Passion is key, but a solid financial and operational strategy is what sustains a business long-term.

2. Embrace Rebranding & Market Expansion
What Changed? We embarked on a brand evolution—refining our identity, messaging, and product innovations to better align with our long-term vision. I also focused on expanding our retail and global presence.
Lesson Learned: A brand must evolve with its audience. Listening to customers, adapting, and positioning strategically is key to staying relevant.

3. Leverage Mentorship & Growth Opportunities
What Changed? Joining the Beta University Pre-Accelerator Program gave me access to mentorship, industry experts, and a like-minded entrepreneurial community.
Lesson Learned: You don’t have to build alone—surrounding yourself with the right people accelerates growth and sharpens your leadership skills.

Biggest Takeaway:
Execution is everything. Having a vision is powerful, but turning it into action—through strategic planning, financial clarity, and smart partnerships—is what drives real, lasting impact.
