We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tunisha Newton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tunisha, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
I found my purpose by paying attention to the things that naturally lit me up and the impact I could make on others. For me, that started with doing hair—I loved seeing how something as simple as a hairstyle could completely shift a woman’s confidence. Over time, that passion grew into building my own salon studio and later transitioning into an online beauty supply store so I could reach and help even more women.
My role as a wife and mom also shaped me, because I realized I wanted to create something sustainable—not just for me, but as an example for my kids, showing them that with dedication and vision, you can build the life you want. My purpose is really about helping women feel beautiful, empowered, and cared for, while also creating a legacy for my family.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
My story started behind the chair as a licensed cosmetologist, where I spent years helping women achieve looks that made them feel confident and beautiful. I went from styling hair in my garage, to booth renting, to eventually opening my own salon studio. That experience gave me not only technical skills but also a deep understanding of what women really need when it comes to caring for their hair.
Out of that passion, I created my online beauty supply store, Studio Mocha. What excites me most is that I get to make beauty more accessible—offering high-quality products, luxury bundles, and protective accessories all in one place. It’s not just about selling products; it’s about providing tools that help women feel flawless effortlessly.
What makes my brand special is that it’s built by someone who has lived and breathed the beauty industry from every angle. I’m not just reselling products—I curate items I believe in and use myself, so my customers can trust they’re getting professional-quality care.
Right now, I’m focused on growing the online side of my business and expanding awareness through social media, customer appreciation programs, and seasonal promotions. One of the most exciting things I’ve recently launched is a rewards program, where my top customer each month receives a gift card as a way to give back. I’ve also started offering product bundles that make it easier for customers to save while getting everything they need for their specific hair goals.
My vision is to continue expanding Studio Mocha into a go-to destination for women who want not just products, but a brand they can connect with and trust for the long run.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Looking back, three skills that were the most impactful for me are:
1. Resilience & Adaptability – My journey wasn’t a straight path. I started doing hair in my garage, then booth rented, opened my own studio, and now run an online beauty supply. Each step came with challenges, but being able to pivot instead of giving up kept me moving forward.
Advice: Don’t be afraid to start where you are. Things won’t always go as planned, but every pivot is part of your growth.
2. Customer Connection & Communication – Whether behind the chair or online, building trust with people is everything. Listening to clients’ needs and creating a brand that makes them feel seen has been at the core of my success.
Advice: Focus on building real relationships. Talk to your customers, ask for feedback, and use that to shape your business or craft.
3. Consistency & Vision – Success doesn’t happen overnight. Staying consistent with my content, my services, and my brand—even when growth feels slow—has been crucial. Having a bigger vision for where I want to go helps me stay motivated through the ups and downs.
Advice: Set small goals that align with your bigger vision, and celebrate progress along the way. Consistency compounds over time.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes—absolutely! I am always open to collaborating, especially with influencers and creators who share a passion for beauty, hair, and empowering women. I’d love to partner with the beauty girlies, the hair girlies, and especially the Black girlies who are already showing up authentically and inspiring their communities.
I see collaborations going beyond just product placement—we can create content together, host services, do hair transformations, unboxings, tutorials, or even live events that really showcase what Studio Mocha is about. My goal is to build partnerships that feel authentic and mutually beneficial, where we’re both helping each other shine.
If you’re a creator who wants to collaborate, whether you’re micro or macro, I’d love to connect. You can reach me directly through Instagram @studiomocha_ or through my website’s contact form www.shopstudiomocha.com. Let’s create magic and push this brand forward together!
