Meet Turjemia (Pretty Kurvz)

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Turjemia (Pretty Kurvz). We think you’ll enjoy our conversation; we’ve shared it below.

Turjemia, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2017 and I stayed there for five years. I had left my old life behind in Arkansas when I decided to leave my family and friends. I was looking for a change of scenery and I wasn’t afraid to step out on faith and courage. It took a whole lot of bravery to start over in a new city and state.  I was driving a vehicle with a little over 100,000 miles and I didn’t have a residence for about three or four months. I stayed at hotels while searching for a job every day. I was determined to build my life from the bottom up. I did not have any help or much support from family or friends, but somehow, I made it happen. I prayed daily and there were times when I couldn’t afford to pay my hotel fees. However, the money would appear out of nowhere. I learned then that I was made to be resilient.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I’m often inspired to dress well and keep up my appearance because it always makes me feel great. When you’re looking your best, you will feel it as well. It’s the reason why I’m so passionate about fashion. I started a fashion business because I love to feel and look good and wanted to share the experience with others. Over the years, I had battled with depression because of childhood trauma. I learned to fight hard for my happiness. I remember when it used to feel like a chore to wake up and continue being alive. I would push myself to get up by utilizing my talents and abilities to be creative. I did this to escape the harsh reality of my environment. At that time, I lived around drug dealers, and I wanted to change my environment. So, I discovered how much I loved drawing pencil art, painting, cooking, singing, dancing, writing poetry and listening to music. I simply took the things that I loved and turned them into hobbies that would get me paid. Afterwards, I started sharing it online and my fan base began to fall in love with it. My art accumulated over 100,000 views on Tik Tok and Facebook. The idea of selling my art soon became a reality because of the support that I have received online. I became a self-taught artist because it was natural for me to do so. I had established my own tranquility.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As I look back, I consider myself as a warrior woman who conquered life without having any guidance or understanding on how to beat the odds. I learned how to balance my thoughts and emotions. I became everything that I wanted to be. I did not allow others to discourage me while I was on the path of self-happiness. The moment when I decided to accept my very own uniqueness, I discovered that I would always remain unapologetic for the person I became. Since I do not seek any validation from others, it was easy to not worry about negative people. My light will always shine as brightly as possible, every single day because I don’t respond to non-supporters who are fixated on dimming my light. My advice to others is simple; be yourself and don’t listen to the haters, and do not feel obligated to explain who you are to those who do not see nor understand your vision.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?
Whenever I am feeling overwhelmed, I always take a break from social media. I detach myself from anything negative as I go to enjoy long nature walks. I detox my body by spiritually cleansing my thoughts. I eat healthy foods, meditate, and I listen to spiritual affirmations. I pray often and I like talking with someone who cares to listen because I don’t overshare my personal life unless it is with a person who can be trusted.
