Meet Ty Gibson

We were lucky to catch up with Ty Gibson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Ty, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with us today. We’re excited to dive into your story and your work, but first let’s start with a broader topic that might be stopping many of our readers from pursuing their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. How have you managed to persist despite haters and nay-sayers that inevitably follow folks who are doing something unique, special or off the beaten path?
I tell them, “I THINK THE THINK NOT!” However on a more serious note – the best way to answer this is question is by simply reminding myself that I’m allergic to negativity. Whatever and whomever that jeopardizes my inner peace – I purposely remain distant from at all times. One thing about it, people only talk and run their mouths without walking ’em first when they realize you’re on the right track that God has called you to be on. And while being on that journey – they become so threatened by the confidence you obtain, the fearlessness to persevere and the strength to put yourself out there so dynamically as you progress deeper into your calling(s). That is the ultimate power you want to always hold regardless of what someone thinks of you and or says about you. I’m telling you, whether you do good or bad in this world, people are going to talk – I see it happen all the time. And for me personally, as much good I strive to put out into this world with having the best of intentions in mind – I still face people having so much to say. From those experiences forward, it took me realizing that it is far more important to live your life for how God sees it over how man sees it. That will always debunk what any negative person tries to throw your direction, I can promise you that. And regardless of what they throw, just remember to stay focused, remind yourself of who you are and whose you are and truck right on through the noise with a huge “killing them with kindness” smile on your face.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
This journey that I’m now living out to the fullest all started in 2013 and I didn’t even realize how deep it was until 2015 where my life truly changed forever. in 2013, I live-streamed faithfully on this platform called YouNow and every chance I got to entertain on the platform, I did. I found it very joyful and super fun. Back then, all I knew was entertainment and expressing myself while doing it. By the time 2015 rolled around, my journey with the platform came to a close after finally realizing that I should be getting paid for all the time, hours and energy that I effortlessly bring to the platform, daily. It was no hard feelings in my departure, I just knew it was time for something else. After leaving, I had no backup plan. That was when God threw an opportunity my way through someone else I was friends with at the time to start posting videos to a platform formerly called Musical.ly and is now TikTok – as we all know it. From that day forth, I went into it blind until I found my way and once I found my plethora of ways – it truly opened many more doors of opportunities and possibilities for what I genuinely loved to do. And 9.7 million+ supporters later just goes to prove that God taking a bet on me to see if I would step out on faith absolutely paid off in His favor. With that being said – specializing in comedy, characters, acting and dancing has allowed me to become well-known for certain series such as “In the Womb”, “Aunt Rona”, “Dances with and without the Music.” Along with becoming well-known for an accidental dance craze I created entitled “Kick Swivel” which later became a song that same year in 2019. I also have a plethora of characters such as Grandma Twerksalot, Mama Swoop and Sarah the Slavage, as well. That is just to name a few. Now of course I’ve done much more however these are just a few special accolades I’ve been able to obtain while my TyGems (my supporters) have fallen in love with these types of videos. Now, as we progress forward – there is more music to come. I’m working on some other things that are currently brewing along with a project I’m currently working on that may or may not be out by the time this article is released. Definitely stay tuned to my socials for updates about it and everything else that I have to offer moving forward in this lifetime.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
As I look to how my journey started to where it is now, 3 qualities I obtained were learning my worth, knowing my lane and moving by God’s given pace. Starting with quality number one, some people are going to have quite a lot to say when they don’t understand the assignment that was personally given to you. There are going to be individuals who disagree with what you do just because… and as much as that is unfortunate for them, it’s highly fortunate for you because you then use their doubts as your fuel to prove them wrong. And last but not least – knowing you belong and that there is space for you to thrive, grow and prosper regardless of what naysayers may say. With keeping that in mind – you have to understand and realize your lane is meant to be moved accordingly at the pace God intended for it to move. We tend to come into the game thinking we’re supposed to have everything given on a silver platter when really, in order to see that silver platter – you have to earn it. You have to want it bad and work extremely hard to obtain it while not comparing how the next person has obtained theirs. The more you put into it, the more you’ll get out of it – simple but loaded. Lastly, being content with the progression of your journey. If God was to reveal to us the ups, downs, curveballs, etc. that our journey will consists us – most likely, we wouldn’t even attempt to embark it. However, in order to fully accept the plan He has given you – you have to be willing to sacrifice not knowing to get to what He already knew and had in store just for you. That alone are points I have to constantly remind myself of daily because the enemy can truly play tricks in your head, making you think that what you’re putting in isn’t paying off. Trust me… every big or small victory is a step closer to greatness – which is always the direction you want to be in. With that being said, one last piece of advice I would give to someone who has a dream but don’t know how to start? Start. The hardest part about leaping is the doubt of failing. If you don’t leap, you’ll never know what you’re capable of doing and conquering in this life. Trust God, trust yourself and I promise you it will all make sense. Don’t think you have to know everything nor have everything to begin this journey, either. You pick up gems as you go which makes the journey from start to finish highly beautiful and worth your perseverance.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?
I am absolutely looking for people to collaborate with. Definitely moving into this new year and next phase of my life – I want to put myself more out there to being open for it. I am so independently head strong and has always been that way for a very long time however when I collab with other creators – it hits so different. And we then produce greatness for the world to see which is very dope. That is also what our supporters love to see – those crossover moments. When it comes down to collaboration, a few things I want people to know off rip is that numbers do not matter to me. I don’t care if you have 10 followers of 10 million. If we can create something dope, build on it and execute it with greatness? That is what matters most to me. Another thing is, it has to make sense. Supporters tend to question creator(s) when they notice that we’re not collaborating with such and such or whatever the case may be. And what they got to realize is that energies are so real and that not everyone perceives to be who their public profile deems them to be. The main thing to always keep in mind when navigating that is to remain open for opportunity but also analytical – going based off what you feel, the energies, the chemistry and seeing what could be done from there. It doesn’t always have to be drama keeping a creator from another creator. It could genuinely mean that they’re a great person but the content alone itself is just difficult to mesh at the given moment.
