We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ty Osborne a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ty, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
For me imposter syndrome is something that I have always dealt with due to the rapid increase of attention in my work from early in my career and early in life. I always get those moments where it doesn’t feel real or maybe that I don’t deserve the success I have had so far. But I always keep a folder and list of things that I have done to look back and visually see and hear my progress to help visualize the hours I put into my work to ensure myself that I am where I belong and it was well earned rather than just lucky.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am Ty Osborne, I am a professional voice over artist of 3 years currently. Something exciting about my job is that no day is the same, there is always new content and new people I am working with and it makes everyday a treat. I love meeting new people and interacting with fans when I can since I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of so many people who put their faith in a kid from a small countryside town. I occasionally stream and interact with my community that way as well. 2024 is shaping up to be a very exciting year with lots of announcements coming soon, if you want to keep updates on me and my progress you can follow me on Twitter/X @TyDoesVoices
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
I think one of the most important qualities I found was resilience as in this field you have to get used to being told the word no. I grew up an athlete and played club soccer for 13 years and soccer in total for 15 years. The mentality of an athlete to shake off the losses and keep moving forward is something that I really am glad I was able to pick up. Another thing I really believe is impactful is the work ethic…I always like to try to stay busy and working on my craft wherever or whenever I can, I hate the feeling of being plateaued so I always strive to keep pushing myself forward to improve. Lastly, one thing that I think some people done really pay attention to is the social aspect of work. Some people like to treat those they meet as business interactions which is wrong. I like to think of myself as a social butterfly and I think being able to level with anyone big or small in the industry to a surface level and treat them like real people that I would love to get to know. If jobs come from it great..if not at least I’ve made some new friends along the way that can help support me if things are getting rough. To improve all of these you need to do a deep dive into your own mentality and instead of trying to plan everything it is a career where you just have to go with the flow as I like to say. In a field riddled with talent sometimes it may be hard to find your niche and truly stick out…but you can keep pushing yourself wanting to improve and build up the resilience. I truly believe that if you just refuse to give up no matter how tough and keep going forward you can make it in any industry..
What is the number one obstacle or challenge you are currently facing and what are you doing to try to resolve or overcome this challenge?
I would say the number one obstacle that I have in my life currently is one of time. I find myself extremely stretched thin between different jobs, friends, and being a full time college student. Time is scarce and I don’t want to feel like I’ve wasted any of it regardless of how late I may go to bed or how tired I will feel the next day. What I am doing to resolve this is lay out a schedule that is achievable and not self destructive. If I plan my time accordingly and have gaps for spontaneous adventures I have been able to keep powering through the tough busy times.
